yes i know its not a proper land rover, but what sort of things could i do to it to make my freelander a bit a bit more enjoyable. i just dont want mine to look like the school run car.

any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

It is a proper landrover, maybe not a proper offroader though.
Swap it for a Disco, you can't get more of a "school run" car than that.

doobreydog has a few interesting mods for his gaylander.Have a look at his photos and i think his got vids too. There are a few others that get brave with the gaylanders.

Save your money for repairs and new parts. Imagine how you would feel if you just spent your money on some chrome side steps and then your vcu seized.

search out doobreydog. (lifted and gifted, apparently)

if you do an internet search, I think bearmach do some limited stuff like a snorkel, side steps, roof rack and so on

Im sorry everyone who commented i made a few errors in my message, its better now. if i could get a disco or defender i would! but im only 17 and cant get insured on anything with a big engine :(.
Sell it and buy a series, classic insurance is cheap and the series has a whole world of mod possibilities and a lot more potential off road.

I think the fundamental question to answer is 'What do you want to use the car for?". Normal driving but you want to pimp your ride? Laning, so you want bigger tyres and hubs, lifted suspension etc. Themed, like Camel trophy (Not that we would recommend this you understand). Give us a clue as to what you have in mind and we will throw in our five pence worth. I suspect there are those that will want to throw in the matches and petrol but ignore that. :D

thanks for all your input. as much as i love the series, i like having a car that does more than 60mph without making your ears pop. i would like it to look a bit more rugged, i have looked into it a bit. i can get decent mud tyres on the 16" alloys, i dont know if i will go as far as raising it but any thing else to help it off road. i have done offroading in my dads disco for years and i would like to do it in mine.

big thanks to Darmain. :)

Optimus Prime put up a suggestion to visit Bearmach.com. I did and found this:

Now, it might not seem like much but to be honest I've been looking for somewhere that does Freelander customisation and this is first time I've come across anything, so thanks for that OP. You can look in LRM and LRO but you find little for the Freelander. Anyway, there is a few bits in there that will make you dribble by the sounds of things.

I came across a video on Youtube a long while ago, can't find it now, but the guy bought a FL1 stationwagon and modded it for off roading. The bit I liked was the cage roof rack. A great base for the front lighting kit and the CB aerial. I would love to get one of those as it looks great and it gets me out of going shopping as the last time I went into the Cabots Circus car park in Bristol the aerials were wacking the light fittings. :D

Bearmach.com was really good! and i do like those roof spots. would look good on my little baby. once i get the new engine in, they will be next on my list.

im new to all this forum stuff, but you have all been really helpful. i thought i was just going to get abused.
