Hi all,

Just here for some advice on my l322. It's been driving terribly lately, really bumpy all the time, so I took it into the garage. They've taken a look and told me that I need new bushes at the back - on everything (which I can understand as it wasn't a good ride).

They've quoted me £1400 parts and labour or offered me £1000 to buy the car, suggesting that it isn't worth the investment.

The car is the 2004 TD6 face lift model, 170k on the clock but has been serviced every year since new. It's got all the added extras (TV, PS2, Rear TV's, Rear Heated seats etc.). Body work is in good condition as is the interior.

I just wondered:

a) Is this a reasonably price for the repair? I've been told they have to disconnected all the air suspension, get it reprogrammed etc. that's why it's so much

b) Is the £1000 a good price for the car as it is?

I love the car but it does less than 2k miles a year so need to make a decision on what to do.

Cheers
Chris

Thanks, that is from my local garage, not linked with Land Rover in any way! It's only a back street garage I use a lot so thought they'd be cheaper. Seems a bit too high to me though

Take it to an honest independent LR specialist.

I changed all the wishbones on my D3, which has a similar suspension system to the L322. There's no programming needed, as all you're doing is restoring it to a correct running condition. You will need 4 wheel alignment done once all bushes/wishbones are replaced, but that's all.
I'd always change the complete wishbones, rather than mess with pressing bushes on rusty wishbones, but I'd be surprised is the cost of the parts comes to half what you've been quoted, if you get them from a reputable supplier.

It's worth more than £1k too. ;)

My thoughts exactly, he made the offer in the same sentance as telling me the cost to fix it. Think I'll try a few more places.

Thanks for all the replies, yeah I'll definitely try some other places - including Johnson Cars and Cavendish motors. Don't want to let it go tbh so was hoping that I'd get these sorts of answers. Shame the garage I've been using and recommending for about 10 years decided they want to try it on

Very common with regulars to certain garages!

Easier to rip off a client who trusts you, than someone whose business you are still trying to win.

I'd get a second opinion, even if it costs near that and the suspension arms are renewed and your happy. You may not see the day they need doing again. As for reprogramming suspension... Pfff really!!

Glad I went to another garage!! Went to a garage called Sheffield Prestige (LR specialists) and the new quote is £381 and will be done by Wednesday.

The new garage even commented on how good condition the car was in for the age.

Not impressed with my "usual" garage but very pleased that I dont have to sell! Thanks for the advice to look around, I may have been too trusting as I've used my garage for years

Cheers
