Hughesy,
Great advice - which diesel you suggest ?
I one big truck to pull, and I'd like something with a higher rev zone than the perk'
Any of the ones LR fitted either a 2.25 as would have been used at the time of manufacture or a slightly later 2.5. Or if you want more power and economy a 200tdi. All of them readily available, parts are cheap, easy to work on and pretty straight forward to fit.

Amblik...have you actually read this thread?? Cos not only have you been told whats wrong, what to do and where to do it, someone even asked your location..a possible helping hand...

Now unless you're looking for us to pay for the repairs too then i suggest you stop being a cnut and pay attention...

Push comes to shove I got a 19j in my old girl that's going cheap £50
Let me know if you want it and I can get it out
It's not the best engine in the world but it works and dosnt smoke to heavy
Would be good for a quick fix

Once again thanks for advice.
How easy a fit is the 200tdi engine to fit ? Would I get more poke with a 2.25 petrol - this 109 seems awfully heavy, and it was bloody loud while it was going.
Thanks again, sorry if I sounded ungreatful

For ease of fitting, ample oomph, reliability and ease of maintenance I'd go for a 2.5 n/a diesel. A 200tdi from a disco will take a bit more messing about to make it fit and might give a shade too much power for your tired old drivetrain. I've just stuck a 19j 2.5 td in my 109 which has made a hell of a difference but it's not easy to find a known good one. A 109 isn't particularly heavy in LR terms though still the best part of 2 tons I spose.

I have a 300tdi series.
The turbo fits no messing, so does the disco downpipe with a little modding.
I have often mentioned this but never seen it done, the 300tdi turbo fits the 109, and I'm assuming the fanimold bolt pattern is the same as the 200, so you could fit a 300tdi exhaust and inlet manifold to a 200tdi engine and in theory it'd go straight in the 109.
Look at my 300tdi in a series thread its active at the mo.
