Folks,
having been the proud owner many years back of an 88" SWB 2.5 petrol, I finally ( after a white van or two ) decided that with winters the way they are, I would make a sound choice and get another series landie.
I need a little space in the back for timber planking, so I looked for a LWB and finally after a bit of time trawling ebay, checking it out best I could, found what I thought was a viable one.
.... I'll cut to the chase - after parting with four figures (just) of hard-earned cash, drove her off, and got used to the noise, chaffed elbows and knees from the doors etc, etc !
SADLY, TWO DAYS LATER SHE STOPPED - F***************ck !!!!!!
(missus is well ****ed off at this as well).
Here's the science bit:
LWB 109 Series III with
Perkins 3.3 Diesel (MF), Overdrive, FWH
Cause of death:
Slight high revs on a hill in 3rd gear caused her to run hotter than N,
Turned on second fan and watched temp drop whilst in top gear/od ,
Smell of smoke
Visions of smoke
Clatter of valves ????
Lack of compression
death of engine
.....smoke possibly came from below cylinder head on right, but only confirmed by torchlight.
....... she now turns over but fails to start.
Truth is guys and gals - I hate to think that a white transit is a better vehicle, but am possibly getting a bit long in the tooth for something that is gonna just cost me cash n pain !
I want to believe in this vehicle, but two days of belief never made a Hare Krishna out of anyone ?
Apologies for the rant - the wife wont listen !
Any help appreciated...

looks like you have been sold a pup, first port of call would be speak to the person who you bought it off, if you want to keep it i would start looking for a new engine as it will likely be cheaper to replace the whole lump than to rebuild it

Well wen you consider that your maximum torque kicks in at 1400 revs
and yer max power of around 60hp is available at around 2600rpm.
and 4.203s dunt like bein flat knackered for long periods of time, could you expect anything else?

when it just might be a slipping clutch due to the amount of humpth that engine has compared to the standard ?

since when will a slipping clutch stop an engine from starting?

cos he's revved the ballocks off it when it slipped, blown the HG and now it won't start due to there not being enough compression

keep up at the back

thats some serious HGF if its gonna stop it starting! in 12 years in the motortrade i have never seen an engine (bar 1 twostroke that ended up needing a full rebuild as it had split the head in half) fail to start with HGF

someone told me you worked in Halfords ?

OK,
so after you've all finished tickling each others dicks, is there anyone with some ACTUAL advice ?
I mean, I don't mind watching, but would prefer it if I got included occasionally !
Anyone in North Wiltshire got any advice/help regards my post ? otherwise I'll leave you to your one-handed cocksmithing ...... thought this was a forum ?

And don't be a dick. You're right it's a forum and this is the way it is. If you don't like it..........................................................

Hughesy,
Great advice - which diesel you suggest ?
I one big truck to pull, and I'd like something with a higher rev zone than the perk'
