Would you tow up to your vehicle limit

I often tow up to the 3.5 ton limit, but that is with loads that are fairly stable and don't throw random tantrums and throw themselves around. Also, it depends on what you tow with. I have towed 3.5 tons with a 90 and a Discovery, and they both behaved very differently when towing. I now tow with a 110, and the difference again is very noticable. It is far more stable than either the 90 or Discovery, and not even the wash from speeding coaches on the motorway seem to affect it at all.

Ist thing disregard the dont brake but accelerate out of a snake **** , all that happens is you get to the scene of the crash quicker !! You need to act at the incipient stage , before it gets to the "brace brace brace" stage . You need to drive at a speed that is below that which snaking occurs , if indeed it is going to occur . You can carefully assess this by driving at steadily increasing speed upto that which is say 5mph above you intended cruise (never exceed speed) If you get to that without feeling any instability then reduce to your never exceed speed which will allow you to drive a bit more relaxed. Danger points to watch are coming up behind a large vehicle which have a wind eddy behind it which could induce a swing to start, also when cresting a hill , where you ease off the accelerator , causing a possible centre of gravity shift , and make sure that you do not allow the vehicle to run away with speed increase. Thats why you see so many overturned trailers etc on the downside of hills .
The primary things to prepare are check tyre pressures at at the rated pressure for the load you intend to move . That the trailer bearings , spring shackles are not worn as this will allow a degree of wander which is not a good thing . That the nose weight of the trailer within the spec of the towing vehicle but towards the upper not lower end.
This is particularly important when moving livestock who can move causing a shift in the noseweight which should never be allowed to go negative. The trailer should ride loaded at either level or slightly nosedown never tail down . Livestock should be restrained as much as practicable. HTSH dont have time to type any more

Longer wheel base vehicles are more stable. Known fact

A mate of mine has a Daihatsu Fourtrack and he tows a huge four wheel flat bed trailer, I've often joked with him about the tail wagging the dog, well on Thursday this week it did just that, jackknifed to the right side, bent the trailer drawbar and stoved the right side of the Fourtrack good and proppa, he missed an on coming car by inches.

The dogs tail was to heavy move 50-100lbs forward makes A difference.

Have hauled skid steers and mini diggers tail starts wagging stop and move machine forward 4-6 inches and happy towing.

It was empty, that's the odd thing and he swears he was not speeding, just braking for a corner. He was on his way back from delivering a full load of straw and hay, he's an experienced HGV1 driver too so not a mug.

Not sure if these people are just doing this to wind me up :D :D

Even a ford galaxy "it's can tow up to 1800kgs" not a fooking horse trailer with 2 horses in it safely it can't....arsehole. They are all arseholes!! :D

Aaarggh! My friend at my yard says her friend tows her horse with a pink BMW convertible. It looks so cool apparently.

Hope her chassis bends and f@&ks up before any harm comes to her horses! Actually that's what I told her. It absolutely boils my p*ss! How can they safely brake down a hill and stop safely is beyond me and how they get away with it too, it's unsafe and it's not legal surely!!

Most properly working trailers have breaks dont they? and tongue weight is not much as trailer carries 80-85% of weight so it is hp pulling the load. Proper hitch attached to car chassis and with in manufacture guide lines, then what is illegal then?
