hi all,
new prob on my disco 1.... when i accelerate the steering wheel wobbles like mad and also a metalic squeeling noise from underneath, took it to the garage to have tyres checked which are fine and they said there is play on both wheels(bearings) but then went to another garage and they said that the bearings would not cause wheel wobble!! any ideas my friends ? oh and also i watched a vid on utube ref changing wheel bearings and there were def two on each wheel but my garage said there is only one on each wheel ???? confused !!!!!

My steering wheel wobbles a goodun at the minute.

And found the problem. My track rod ends are knackered. Gets especially worse when you hit a bump in the road. Plus my rear prop sliding joint is fubar so generally get a good vibration under acceleration as well.

Makes it interesting to drive!

eh?????? lol.....just looked at track rod ends on ebay and they do a 3 pack....why would i need 3 ????

One each for LH and RH end of tie rod and one for the LH wheel end of the drag link, that is, the rod from the bottom end of the steering box pitman arm to LH hub.
Note: tie rod has LH thread one end and RH thread the other to allow toe in/out adjust, I think from memory the drag link end thread is RH, but not 100% on that.

Noise could be a bit of stone or earth riding against the brake disc, they often get trapped if you have brake shields fitted, try reversing, may get it out.

Wheel wobble, balancing, tres, panhard rod bushes, steering damper. If none of those sorts it, swivel pins.

Your looking at the wrong track rod end kit ........... early disco's only had 3 using one on the drag link bar (front)and the other 2 for the track bar(rear) later Disco's had 4
