Will the insurers write this off?

Got hit side on this afternoon by a Kia Cee'd.

What's the likely outcome of this? In everyone's experience will this be written off (V8, LPG, ES, '52 reg)

Just wondering so I can see whether I need to start looking for a new car.

I don't think it has bent the chassis, and it does still drive, although police insisted it was recovered not driven home.

Was exciting - never had it on 2 wheels before!

is centre door post damaged if so probably wright off. i think you will have a fight on your hands to keep this one. if you can get your own quote done as your insurance repairers will quote sky high which is the norm. thats if you want it repaired

I think it depends till its assessed by insurance company, but what about seeing about buying it back and fixing it, if its just panel damage ?

Thats what happens if you drive across the top gear test track :D

Sorry mate but thats alost sure to be a write off. You need to make sure you get the maximum cash payout from the insurance, have a search there are quite a few threads on dealing with the b@5t@rd5. The first decision you need to make is if you actually want to keep the vehicle and is it sensibly repairable.

I thought that would be the consensus. Shame as its my first Land Rover and I was loving it! It goes off road almost daily and was great.

The Kia was definitely much worse off - definitely written off! Everyone ok though!

I'll see what his insurers say. They're hopefully setting me up with an equivalent courtesy car.

Your Disco stood its ground well. That looks like a straigh " T " bone crash.

I think it will be a write off, cause it looks like it may have damaged the floor pan of the body.

No one hurt though, so its just bent metal and arguing now !

Del.

I'd say write off.

Recently had a similar thing in a 2006 Audi Q7, little Ka swiped the front corner and took the front wheel off. Insurance repair quote was £13500 for the Audi, Ka written off.

Audi was written off also after quote came through.

What I'm saying is that repair work is VERY expensive these days, whereas you car is probably worth about £4000.

My advice? Play it by ear but mainly aim to get to buy the car back after you've been paid out. Remove the doors, wing and quarter, cut the damaged floor out and weld it all back together with new doors : OFF ROADER!!!! :D

Write off, done door pillar, most insurance repairers basic hourly rate is £38.00@hour, they will see this as an uneconomic repair!
buy it back yourself and have it done, get on Ebay and buy all the relevant parts quite cheap, most expensive bit is having it painted and door pillar straightened,
you know the car, it nearly 12years old! what have you got too loose????
good luck!

Sorry mate but how is a 52 registered (latter half of 2002) car nearly 12 years old?

ill have to dig the pics of that kia out now! after the crash i ended up towing the kia off the road with the policeman behind the wheel

I wonder how it would have fared if it were fitted with chassis mounted side steps or rock sliders? less damage to the bottom of the door pillar but possibly more chance of damaging the chassis? Any pics of it with the doors open?

I don't think so mate, if the insurer deems the vehicle uneconomical to repair then they write it off - this means that they pay out on it instead of having it repaired.

Be interested to know what they give you as equivalent courtesy car mate. Few year back i had top of range v6 3.2 omega wrote off , 3rd parties insurance sent a bloody fiat seicento as equivalent,

It was fitted with chassis mounted side steps! It was 'removed' in the process! Its bent/sheared the mounting points off.

Went to collect stuff from it yesterday. No pics of it with the doors open (they do both open) but the door pillar is definitely bent inwards and the floor pan is bent also.

His insurers have agreed to set me up with a 4wd and I've said I'm happy with pickup or discovery/equivalent which they seemed ok with. I politely refused a Freelander as its not got enough room for all my stuff which I carry for work. Having said that I've not got anything yet!
