Hi all, went "off roading" yesterday, bloody disaster, got stuck in a huge puddle of mud and it leaked into the car and soaked the BeCM have just spent hours taking it apart and cleaning all the contacts on the boards but to no avail, when I put it back in the truck (P38 DSE) all the lights, wipers and washers come on with the ignition off, so safe to say it's fooked, I got another from the local scrappers but having read this and other forums I need to get it synced to the key and ECM, does anyone know of anybody in the Lancashire area that does this? any help would be greatly appreciated, and of course I'll pay. Never again will I let my ego drive, it's far too bloody expensive !!

I might be new to Range Rovers and need lots of help there but I spent years recovering abused electronics. As a Granada engineer I quickly found that cats loved the warmth of a video machine, switched on at all times, and handily placed under the televison. The trouble with cats is when they are old and get comfortable they leak! So back to your electronics. Firstly you've got it wet once so don't be scared to wash it again with clean water. Then to clean any other contaminants from the board and it's contacts clean it with alchohol. In the perfect world you'd have some isopropyl to hand but if not use vodka and a soft paintbrush. Then dry it. If you've got an airline then use it but carefully as you don't want to blow any components off the board. What you need to do is to get any water out from underneath any components. A hair drier on a very low setting if your missus doesn't catch you. Don't get frustrated and reach for the hot air gun, these things can melt solder. Take your time, one drop of the original muck or the washing water trapped under a component can short it out.
If this doesn't work then, you've opened the vodka, so what the heck.

Thanks for the tip dogsbody, I will give it a go, I think the patient approach could be the way forward and the vodka sounds like just the job for helping with the pure frustration of owning a P38, think I'll trade it in for a bicycle !!

You could fit it on the roof inside one of those Thule roof box thingies after getting the silicone gun out and filling every crevice. The cables could be run through holes drilled in the roof, suitably sealed of course with the dregs of the silicone cartridge.
