200 and 300 tdi's have starter motor, alternator and fuel stop solenoid. That's about all.

Diesel engines are compression ignition meaning that the fuel is ignited simply by compressing it so much that it burns without any extra spark needed. Plus the electronic injectors are only 12volts so will still fire in water.

Petrol engines are spark ignition meaning even though the fuel is still compressed like a diesel it needs a spark to ignite it (sparkplugs),and the ignition system runs at about 50,000 volts ( not many amps so won't kill you!). Electricity will always find the easiest route to earth to make a circuit, so dirt on a dizzy cap or more importantly water will make the spark go a different route to where it should, the plug. This is why an unsealed petrol engine will misfire if water gets on it.
Keep the water away from the ignition system, sealed ignition, megasquirt etc and you will be as good as a diesel.
