Which is the best V8 of LR????

I am a V8 fun and I am wondering which is the best V8 engine ever build by LR-I am talking about reliability, performance, running costs, maintenance costs, off road capabilities etc. My ex P 38 4.6 was a good engine but I had common oil leakages. My current RR 4.2 SC is a great car but still has low miles to judge and expensive service and I am bit afraid of the electronics in the long run - but no problems yet..

3.5 on twin SU's

it sounds the dogs bollix and will be cheap to run and fix, my 3.9 and the others I have heard dont sound as throaty

Is it the sound you are after or "reliability, performance, running costs, maintenance costs" it has to be a standard 3.5 "flapper" EFi as fitted to the RRC of the 3.5 "hot wire" EFi as fitted to the disco..

The 3.5 engine is "better" than the 3.9?

hotwire is nice and simple once u learn it but it doesnt sound as good as carbs.

Most robust is the 3.5 on strombergs carbs as they keep their tune longer than su
Most tuneable would be a 4.6 with 14 cux or a bespoke injection system

I've often heard that but can anyone explain why? Surely the 'beat' of a V8 is due to the cyl. bank firing sequence but why should the method of fuel delivery to the cylinders make a difference

efi can sound nice with rightpipe work exhaust makes tham sound nice plus efi more efficent

The 'best' is not always the best for you...
Personally I would sooner have the 'driverbility' of EFi. 3.5, 3.9 or whatever. Have had plenty an hour fookin about with carb settings and tuning them up in the paddocks during race weekends and really wouldn't want to go back there again thanks.
EFi or carbs....both types can be made to sound great with the right exhaust and induction

3.5 sounds the nicest IMHO

3.5 EFi for me.

i have it in my disco, im not saying im biased or i chose that setup particularly, but i have to say its been very good.

not a single injection problem in the 5 years ive had it, no chance of a liner slip problem, few igntion niggles thats it.

id stay safe and easy with 3.5 efi every time, or for power and empty wallets a 4.6 on efi job done
