Ive got a 1994 200 tdi 90 with thick type drive members on the rear. Ive just bought a Ashcroft diff which requires 24 spline half shafts.

im assuming mine are 10 spline given the age of vehicle and the fact it has the thick type drive members.

So based upon that i need the old style rear half shafts from ashcroft and the 5806 drive members. so far so good!

The problem is that I know for fact that the front axle on my vehicle is from a Disco 1 (steering damper is behind axle), and im worried that the rear axle is from a disco 1 as well.

The drive members between Disco1 and Defender have different bolt hole sizes and PCD so either an ashcroft 5806 or 5806/M.

How can you tell the difference between the two type visually? Can you tell if its a disco axle visually? anybody know the PCD or bolt hole sizes for the two types of drive member? For info the the rear axle has disk brakes, but dont know if thats normal. The year is bang on the cusp between 200/300.

too hard! :D

No help but my 200 is a 93 and has discs on the rear, 24 spline front and rear so I reckon they made the change to 24 spline before the 300 came along.
As for the drive members sorry I cant help
My mate fitted disco axle to the rear of his 1988 90 and he had to get really thick drive members from ashcroft

disco and defender flange bolts are the same as is pcd ,24 spline shafts are shorter than 10 spline shafts hence different drive members stub axles and hubs

You sure as it's not what the ashcroft website says? Lookup p/n 5806 and 5806m on their site.

I guess given the answers above I should take one off to check it's not 24 spline already. I'm still none the wiser as to which ones I should buy though. Ill phone ashcroft first thing.

thats a flange they make to replace one piece flange/shaft (non std part)for imperial bolt flanges for early disco/ rrc 10 spline diffs, def are metric as are all later rrc and discos, unless you but non std shafts 24 spline shafts wont fit earlier 10 spline drum wheel stations

Sorry to sound dumb but I didn't understand half of that lol.

For a defender 90 200tdi they recommend OSR rear half shafts and 5806 drive members. Their shafts and drive members don't come as one part. If you have a 200tdi discovery 1 then they recommend OSR rear half shafts and 5806M drive members.

So I'm none the wiser?

So Dave @ Ashcroft says I need 5806M. Pity they are out of stock till next week.

My drive flanges look like this (on the left). So i need 5806M drive members

These are defender drive flanges with plastic caps, which I dont have. These are the 5806 ones.
