What Rear Lights Do I Need ?

I bought galvanised rear tub corners as mine are always rusting. The holes are bigger and fixings are different on the replacements, so can someone tell what year lights do I need ?? Mine is a 1989.
Photo shows replacement galv bracket against original painted one.

I have the LED units on mine and the light output is better.
Might be worth considering but the you would probably want to change all of the lights.
Saying that they were fitted by the previous owner, being tight I would have left them as standard.
Managed to talk my son out of fitting them on his Ninety, manly because I would of had to fit them.

That is a good idea…..but !! I just checked it and whilst the mounting hole centres are the same (I would just need a longer screw going through the lens screw holes) the bulb earth screw is going into fresh air.

But you also have an earth wire do you not?
Simple solution would be to plug your light in to the loom and see if it works.
Edit: No way am I an auto electrician.

I’ll do that. If I chose to use the old lights, I will get it to work somehow. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Except I’m crap with electrickery 😏
 
Let's think about the Td5 lights, they have no earth tab on the housing so would earth out through the wire loom adapters you would need to buy.
Since they are meant to be plug and play I don't see why your old lights don't earth through the loom.
Maybe Land Rover knew there would be earth problems in the future so stuck that tab on for an extra earth for when the wire loom rots away?
Can never have too many earths!

I was thinking that myself. But, I have had issues in the past with a light not working, and the fix was cleaning the brass tab and making sure there was a good contact to body through the screw !! I’m going to have a play about with it tomorrow.
 
I have just done this to my 110 and I’m the process of doing the same to my station wagon. The lights you need are the later style “sealed” unit ones (indicator is LR048188, I have just ordered some). They were also fitted to 300tdi not just the td5. As mentioned above you by at @Def90man you will need some of part number RTC3745 to fit into the square holes to then screw the lights to. I fitted led side and rear lights to mine form rdx and 12 months later they are still functioning perfectly well and I have no complaints but I left the indicators as standard bulbs. Something else to be aware of If you do go for the later style you may need to make the actual large hole in the Ali panel Behind the capping larger to accommodate.

The lights you have currently should earth through the wiring loom with the brass tab as a back up. But the loom earth point is just a ring connector self tapered into the tub behind the corner panel. I replaced these with a bolt through the tub with another wire underneath going to the chassis to give a good solid wiring earth. This then means you can use the adapters above as the loom earth they rely on is a good reliable earth.

Did you use the adaptors or similar to the ones in my post #6 ??
 
Thought….

If you put the capping on but don’t enlarge the body work (for the bigger indicators)
Would the fixings still work on the old smaller lights ?
You would be using the body work not the capping to fix to and the diameter of the lights will still cover the new cappings
