Agree with most of the comments re comfort/sleeping, but if you are only going to be occasionally using a landy you can get some bargain older 2.5 N/A diesels...a little worse mpg (i get 24 or 25mpg) and not quite the top end, mine sits good at 60mph but thats about it...you'll get maybe 15-20mph more but how often are you going to use it in your case?

For the money you are talking i'd go for a good N/A....rather than a buggered 200tdi...good luck!

agree with storm99 on that one and if you turn out to dislike the lake of power on the n/a(lets not forget no landy is a sports car though) retro fitting a disco 200tdi is pretty simple:D

The price landys are fetching at the moment is unreal. I'm seriously tempted to sell mine, wait 3 months for the prices to drop, and then buy another.

Anyone want a TD5 110 sw?

Is that the one that has no hot water and the reg plate swings like a windmill :p:p

Want to hazard a guess why this is Ratty? Due to the bad winter? Or have people started to see through the global warming argument? Just curious..

I'd say it's to do with the weather more than anything. If we aren't suffering from flooding we're getting more heavy snow than recent years. Due to the current economic climate it also appears that more people are staying in the UK for their hols. There are more caravaners now than ever before. This means that people can now justify owning a 4x4 all year round. Towing tin sheds in the summer and battling the elements in the winter.

i was working on the landy last week putting it all back together after the respray/refurb

had main roller door on the unit open, and a guy who was visiting a unit 2 doors down popped in and asked how it was goin,he had a good look around it and then asked if it was for sale..

na not really ive only just done all this work to it..

he says hes been looking for 3 months and cant find what he wants for the price..

he offerd me £6k and left his number and said call me if i wanna sell,
hmmmm i was tempted but then something with my spec, the condition and being a csw is very hard to find and i would have to buy another 90 and start from scratch again.
having worked exstensively on me 90 from the enjin swap,to the respray i know what good condition above and below its in.

so although i was tempted i dont think i could find what i would want if i sold it,which is what this guy is saying.

at the end of the day even dog rough 90s still fetch a fair deal of wonga, and good ones ya gotta pay for

 You know you have a top drawer Landy... what would you replace it with?..... yes, almost identical but try and find a good one. Took me 4 months to find my 110 and a 400 mile round trip.

JC, yours looks pretty close to the sort of thing I'm after, but a bit beyond my budget. For some reason, I thought nobody else would be after a Landy thanks to the bad winter... So, it looks like I'll need to play the waiting game or get lucky.

Scott, it's a '96 MR2 n/a. Attached photo shows it in shinier condition than it is at the moment.

You should pick an untouched one like mine was, 1994 with 150k on for under 4k but you could easily spend another £500 without blinking getting it half decent and as you say, you don't want to be doing that. You need to go and look at a few and as you say, take your time. I wouldn't buy another that need a lot of work, I spent most of last summer learning but I wanted to do that. Someone elses finished project is ideal for you. All you need to do is oil changes every 5k.... you can do that.
Mine had 12 months MOT when I got it..... had I poked harder I would have found the holes in the rear xmember and front out riggers but I was clueless. MOT means nothing, you have to know what to look for.
You will find one :)

Yeah, there's something to be said for avoiding something that's had substantial mods done to it. When I bought the MR2, I deliberately chose something that was stock (apart from bigger wheels) to save myself from potential hassles with other people's dodgy mods going wrong (lot of modifying in the MR2 scene).

I don't mind doing a bit of work - can't expect a perfect motor - but I don't want to find it going to a garage for a fortnight for welding, clutch change, big lumps pulled apart to get seals changed, etc. The basic thing must have sound mechanicals and chassis/bodywork. I can live with minor jobs that need only hand tools (got a decently-equipped lockup to work from, but no pit or heavy lifting, and I know a Series IIa won't go in with the roof on).

Nah. :)

The best way to turbo an MR2 is to buy an MR2 turbo. As above, they tend to be modified, both bodywork and engine tuning. Tuned turbos are very fast, but need to be done right to preserve reliability. I always wanted to put a 3L Camry V6 in it (popular conversion), but the cost of that would go a long way towards a Landy. As it is, it's my daily driver, reliability is excellent, and it's plenty of fun in stock trim. I'd rather have the car I've got plus a Landy, than a faster version of the car I've got plus no Landy.
