Wheel spacers or adjust lock stops?

One thing not mentioned so far in this thread, if you fit spacers it puts additional load on the wheel bearings potentially shortening their working life.

Not wanting to face this issue was one of the reasons I decided to go for 235/85/16 tyres rather than 265/75/16.

It's the very reason that I don't like wheel spacers and prefer to adjust my lock stops instead. :)

After driving around an empty carpark today Ive noticed the wheel only rubs when on full left lock. Full right lock causes no rubbing. So im going to adjust the relevent lock stop before I consider spacers.

So looking at the diagram below, do I loosen the lock nut, then wind bolt in or out?
Do I do this with the wheels in the full lock position, or have the wheels straight and then check the lock afterwards?
When turning the bolt, will I see the wheel turning slightly?
Should it be done with the front lifted on axel stands?

Put the front up on axle stands placed under the axle and not the chassis.
Wind the relevant bolt out to restrict travel. You only need a few mm of clearance between tyre and radius arm. Using stands makes it easy to turn from lock to lock and you can rotate the wheels by hand to check your adjustments.

Well the lock stops have been adjusted to solve the tyre rubbing. I cheated though and asked the garage to do it whilst it was in for other work:eek:. But I have redeemed myself by at least taking a photo of the lock stop bolt incase anyone wants to know where it is...
