Hi, i have had a 1998 freelander 1.8 petrol for just under a year. Its now got 70 k on the clock and ever since i have had it, i find that there is a constant whine from underneath. its more pronounced in the front of the car, but then again i've never been in the back while driving. Is this normal? ( The noise that is) Also recently i changed the two front tyres, balanced and tracking on all 4, and there is a second noise that has appeared like a tyre that is flat. This will only occur when its cold and goes away after about 10 miles. I have 27.5 psi allround. If Any one can help, i would be very greatfull.

I have never been in the back while driving either. So it must be normal ;)

have yer got same make all round ? and they need to be all evenly worn,un up it to 30 psi un see how that is, best tyres to the front [fronts always wear out first] . . . .:)

OK, so i finaly sorted the new noise. It was a metal stud imbedded in one of the rear wheels. The tyres are all Pirelli scorpions and i have pumped up to 30 psi now. Noise is still there. I will be fitting some rubber under the headlights ( Diagnosed fault with them by LR). Though it does sound like the whine is from the drivetrain, vcu or rear diff. I have booked it in on Tuesday with LR to see if they can check it out. Maybe it is normal that the Hippo is noisey! Will let you know anyway.
