Bit of a light hearted thread away from the normal 'my whole vehicle is broken, what the hell do I do?' threads!

I was thinking about changing my car the other day, I've got a L322 worth about 13k ish and would be looking for something the same price or cheaper. But after hours of scrolling through autotrader and pistonheads I couldn't think what I would swap it for - I think this is partly not wanting to 'downgrade' to a lesser car.

Though about TVRs, but they are even less reliable than RRs (yes, its is possible!). Thought about 2002-3 BMW M3s. Thought about Old Merc CL500s and S classes. Looked at the old Jag XKs (you can get an early 2000s supercharged one for 10k these days!). Looked at old Audi S4s and S6s. The list is endless.

One think that struck me though was how dated many of these premium cars were looking now whereas I think the L322 interior has aged very well in comparision.

So anyway, this isn't a 'what should I buy' (depends what you want a car for would be the answer!), but what would YOU swap your rangie for if you were going to sell it?

I think the disco 4 looks far too boxy - like a van. Also what would the benefif of going from a RR to a Disco, other than it perhaps being a bit newer (for the same price?), they are roughly the same offroad (awaiting flaming!), not as nice inside, not as nice outside, slower, just as unreliable (ish), similar MPG. But as I originally said, what would YOU buy, you say Disco, I say no thanks :D

would yous be offended if i say a disco 4?

I like the look of them but they seem to be even more unreliable than the P38, not to mention difficult to work on. I was told by an LR mech that to work on the engine you have to lift the body shell off the chassis:doh::eek::doh::eek:

I'll stick with my P38:D:D:D

Jag XJR everytime. Cossetts you like a Rangie, but watch the jaws drop of the boy racer brigade as they look at your exhaust pipes away from the lights. If it could cope with the annual winter trip to Norway I'd have one on the drive now. One of the most underated cars on the road.

Only had my L322 a couple of weeks but may go for an early Classic 3 door sometime in the future or a petrol 'Air Portable'.

But if the UK economy goes totally belly up, I heard CBoardman bikes are pretty impressive!

That says all you need to know about Stealer mechanics!! The Disco 3 is a monocoque so he's going to run up a lot of hours trying to remove the body from a chassis that isn't there:doh::doh:

It would have to be something completely different but still premium like a Maserati Quattroporte or, if I had the disposable cash, a new Audi S5 Quattro.

Just got me a 72 three door for that very reason , when I lpg it I will have no road tax to pay and only 60p a litre!!!!

Just found out it has a brand new LR engine in it too , bargain for a sight unseen buy!!! :D

I had one er them for 9 months in 1981!
Great fun, brilliant handling but uncomfortable as **** and drains the tank in 100 miles.
Less reliable than a P38 too!
Yea,yea, yea - but I just prefer the looks to the MHR I have at the mo.(When I get it back together, ordered the piston rings today - just need to redo the heads and its all go,cant wait.)
