Good Afternoon All!

Ive recently fitted sum Insa Turbo Dakar Mud terrian tyres (Std size 235 70 16) to my 300tdi Disco and was wondering what tyres pressures to run due to them A) being a MT and not road bias and B) being a retread.?

at the moment Im running 32psi in the rear and 26psi in the front.

Part of the reason for asking the question is that Im noticing quite a differnce in fuel consumption, I used to get around 25-26mpg's doing my usual short journeys of 3-5miles to work and back and a few other little trips in and out of town but Im now getting 18-20mpgs, this is as far as Im conerned V8 teritory, and if Im shoveling this much juice I'd rather be driving a V8!

Has anyone else experienced any thing like this?

Your tyre pressures seem a bit out but i don't know what they are supposed to be for normal tyres and normal loads. I have the same tyres on my RRC, I run at 30psi all round.

Fuel consumption - well I run a V8 so don't lose sleep over it but you will use a bit more fuel on mud tyres but I wouldn't have thought it would be that much of a difference. If you're getting 18 - 20 mpg around town and short hops be happy! A v8 will struggle to see better than 14mpg with the average being more in the range of 9 -12mpg. On motorways a v8 might do 23-24mpg when being reasonably gentle.

I wouldn't have thought tyres would make that much difference to fuel consumption. When we off-road I generally drop my tyre pressures (AT's, not MT's) to about 20 psi all round for grip .. doesn't seem to make much difference at all!

What might make a difference, indeed did on mine, but again not that much, is the diameters of the tyres .. but you say these are the same size so it shouldn't be that!

Might be worth looking elsewhere for a coincidental problem occurring.

i noticed when i went to my Insa Turbo's that fuel economy dropped massively. was getting 300+ miles to a full tank of mostly town driving before the new tyres, now im down to 200 miles. nothing else changed on the car so i just put it down to the tyres and the compromise we have to make

i'm running insa turbo MT all round now and i hav'nt noticed any difference in fuel consumption since changing from my road tyres and my tyre pressure's are about 33 psi all round

Thank fook for that I was starting to consider leaving the Saharas in the garage for a while longer

I agree, I've been running insa turbo dakars for a few months and I've only noticed a slight drop in fuel economy and run about 33 psi all round too. I wasn't sure about buying remoulds at first but finances said I had too and I'm glad I did, brilliant tyres off road and not half as bad in the wet as I expected.

Mine on special tracks is like driving a series on motorway, 4 gear as it now goes slower in 5th 65mph or so. time for a set of spare road tyres and more power

Good idea, I got a set of lr steelies in the garage with road tyres on for when the weather improves:confused: Just keep looking on fleabay some wheels and tyres go for feck all, I paid £14 for 4 land rover steelies and nuts:D.

something like 205 road tyres go for peanuts, Locally and A roads the defender v8 csw is great, but unless I change the engine-it's crap on 31.5 inch wheels on motorway.

Considering I have Defender transfer box which is lower ratio than disco-disco transfer box would be hideous over geared
