Ok, since my accident has left me somewhat useless, I cannot get under her and take off the box(es) to change the rear crankshaft oil seal nor even the front one! :(

As I am waiting while the insurance wheels turn very slowly, I am broker than a broke broke person...

So, I challenged my solicitor to get them told that since they claim responsibility for my accident and all that goes with it, I want them to get my car repaired.

My mate who's never done one before, but is a competent mechanic, is happy to do the job. So anyone k now the time LR state to change front/rear oil seals? We figured around 850 quid at his prices.

Also, he (solicitor) wants a value of my car in case it exceeds the value of the work  (Fuck off!!!!)

2000 THOR 4.0 Immaculate body, clean grey interior, 99k (new engine 15k ago) FSH up to & including last two as well as new LPG main parts & serviced. All new snow tyres (Nov 16) and all new summer tyres (June 16)... Yes, 9 wheels :D

Any idea of a value of the car then for insurance purposes. Ta ;)

About £1000 that dodgy suspension lets it down......literally

Col

Not for long ;)

A secret (and very gracious) sponsor has sorted me out with more than enough parts to fix the spare valve block (I already did the "O" rings and piston barrel & seal) so it's getting done very very soon.

So, haul up yer bloomers Auntie Col and give me an "every finks werkin" scenario.

It is currently working, I just need to get me mate to swap over the sensors and try again with the EAS Unlock Suite

Packet of Smarties and half a pound of Midget Gems (No black ones) and a Mars bar for good will. You give me the Mars bar by the way. :D:D

Ok, since we are all having so much fun, can anyone answer the LR workshop time it takes to remove gearbox & associated parts to change the crank seal and all the front gubbins to do the front one? :p

She leaks a bit and although it takes an age (months) to drop from high to low on the dip stick, it's still too much and it's making a mess o_O

With proper equipment a day should be plenty.

All the gear, proper garage. 4 poster, gearbox jack (goes some height  ) air & battery guns and all that malarkey. Even a diesel heater and a tea room

So, about 8hr all going well. Is that just the box or the front seal too??

Reason I ask, is I know the belts & crank pulley need to come off, but wondered if the timing casing does too?

I'm still looking at the workings of the RAVE thingy o_O

Problem you have is that the insurance valuation will be far far far less than you think is a fair price for your car.

Not car insurance... It's the miserable bastards who gave me tuppence as an interim payment... I need my car serviced (well, new crank oil seals) and if the accident hadn't knackered up my ankle, leg & arm/shoulder, I would have tackled it myself or put it to my mates garage. Either way, I put it to my brief that if they have taken it upon themselves to claim responsibility, then I wan't my car fixed and they are paying.

He's came back with a reasonable reply so now I need facts & figures.

I still think it's a huge job to do both ends of the crank so I figured on about 800 quid give or take for parts, labour & fluids. That may sound like a generous figure, but I just know there will be rusted nuts & bolts, broken bits, expensive parts and so on. If it works out less, all the better as it can pay for her oil, filters and new discs & pads.

I am also thinking of the price & availability of the torque converter flexi plate...

Cant fix the oil leak :p,thats the way these cars self underseal ..It was a specail design by LR,,And give me some o yer miget gems,,doo:rolleyes::D:D.but not the green ones ..

Don't hold your breath Doo, after I had a head on with an errant wheel off another arctic, the other party's insurers admitted liability within a year and it took 7 1/2 years more to settle on quantum. Shower of barstewards even had me followed by video cars.

I was rear ended by a girl on the phone brushing her hair with the other hand her company addmitted liabilty the next day. 6 years later i got a payout the hardly coverd the cost of my bike let alone loss of earnings and injury.
That said look on the bay there is a dealer with a p38 priced at 10k and its nothing special either.

You want this interim payment as you can no longer do the work due their insured's negligence. I would have thought the increased costs of your life style are their problem - not yours - any car you like needs fixing from time to time.

Is he really suggesting that you should get rid of George due the fact that they have damaged you ?

I'm not seeing much equity there....

I already got an interim payment after a year. Was supposed to be 25k but because they had to pay the government 7.5k for benefit I hadn't even had and 3.5k bill for the hospital, I got 10k. So paid my mortgage & gave wife rest to pay other nonsense :(

We are so broke, I had to stay in bed all day until about 14:00 as we can't afford to put the heating on all day and night.

Got a txt from the bank this am stating I had gone over my limit which is 0:00 anyway, so I was in minus. Wife paid some money in to stop us getting a big charge, but I can't remember the last time I was in this much difficulty o_O

I get 420 quid a month off the government, but it doesn't go far...

Ask for another !! IIRC, they can't refuse - they will be awkward, but they can't refuse.

I'm sorry you're going through all this sh*t, but if it's any consolation, this does seem to be how insurance companies work. I've mentioned this before, but we're 11 Years into a storm damage claim - 6 years in a POS caravan in our garden,, and more than a little fed up with the No Flaming Use M************
