I tried to fit a boost gauge but failed
I mean come on, just how hard can it be???
I know it was going to be one of those sort of jobs when I had to fanny around for ages making the gauge fit the pod correctly, but once that hurdle was over, I was confidant the rest would be childs play......
Below is a catalogue of my misery and failure.
First off, decide where I'm putting the pod and mount it. Well, that bit was easy.
Then realise that in order to route the hose through to the engine bay I will have to drill through the bulkhead. Removing the centre console part of the dash seemed like an obvious thing to do. 20 minutes of ****ing around got me this far.
I'm on a roll I'm the daddy. Just quickly drill through the back of the dash and I'll be in the engine bay in no time. Easy peasey.
Bugger. Thats wiped the smile off my face. All that has happened is that the drill bit has gone through some crappy piece of plastic at the back of the dash, but has not penetrated the first 'skin' of the bulkhead.
Ok, not to worry. I now have a useless hole in my dash top, but hey, never mind. I'll just re-route the boost gauge tube down the side of the dash and drill another hole by the steering column and feed it though there.
Drilling. Bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Oh fantastic :banghead: Bloody double skinned bulkhead with quite a gap between the tow layers. Now not only do I have a useless hole in my dash top, but I also have a useless hole in my bulkhead. :banghead: FFS!
Right then. I completely acknowledge that I have failed as a man, (except that I can catch crabs with a line and start a proper fire). So just where should I be routing the bloody tube for the boost gauge?

If it's owt like a defender then find where yer wiring loom goes through the bulkhead and stick the pipe through there.I tried to fit a boost gauge but failed

today i learnt where all me nipples are so i could grease them

I swore at mine..... LOTS. I must have looked like Basil Fawlty on my driveway.
Ordered at 6.5mm x 275mm drill bit to try and penatrate the firewall to feed through the tube for the boost gauge.
Then after lunch removed the inlet manifold, (piece of ****), and then spent the next 4 hours trying to remove the exhaust manifold. That was fun
Gave it all up as a bad job when I realised just how incredably gunged up my inlet manifold was. ****ed about for 30 minutes with an old tooth brush and some thinners trying to clean the dam thing, but all i was doing was spreading it around a bit and wearing out the tooth brush.
Will be popping over to a mates garage tomorrow to chuck it in their parts cleaner for a couple of hours. I reckon the ports are restricted by around 10%, and thats no exageration.

i think i may just buy me some tubs of the stuff - i dread to look at the rest of it!
after the 17th when i am free and dont need to go anywhere till i drive it to italy - im just going to take as many bits as i dare to off and look for problems. if i get stuck i may call in the heavy support - may well take it down to kris!
