Three questions.....

Are you changing the rear prop as well?

Where are you getting a prop from?

How much are you being charged for a prop? I'm curious to know how my local LR main dealer stacks up against other places.
 
paddock, and its &55.90 exc. vat. thought whats the deal with gkn hardy spicer products - is it worth paying extra for them

for the minute no i am leaving the rear propshaft. i had a look and that seems ok

It is deffo worth the extra 'cos ye'll be changin' the cheapo ones fairly soon otherwise. What's the point of buyin' two or three cheap ones when one good set will last a lot longer;)

yea that was what i was thinking. must be worth the extra, i generally go by getting the better stuff when its an important part like that but aftermarket bits are always a bit questionable i guess

I recently paid £397 inc VAT, the rear donut, and all the nuts and bolts needed, (in the correct imperial size, and not in brittle stainless), for front and rear props from my local main dealer.


I didn't think that was too bad a price considering I was quoted £125 + Vat to have the front re-conned.

But £55! Thats bloody cheap. I'm suprised that you aren't bothering to get a new rear one? I suspect that you may well need one sooner than you think. Don't forget just how much damage it could do if it broke at speed?

dealers always rip you off. the more sexy one which will last longer is 85 plus vat, so i will go for that. the rear really doesnt look too tired. in the long run i will do that as well, but i have alot on at the moment, so will only do the front and leave that for a little later. got others odds and sods jobs that need doing as well

haha, shame there's no front grill at the moment. also a shame i was in wales, had i been at home i would have had my new steering guard and spots on by then also, which will make it look a little more visually appealing

notice though - to those of you that i have been out laning with recently - that all the indicators work ;):D

i doubt they can beat paddocks on parts - they always charge mroe thanks to fitting - labour boosts it massively. but yea i agree if they last that it cant be bad can it!

the rads a replacement job to be honest with you haha, its got some wounds, the landy was brought knowing that would need to be done!

not like the grille fitment is particularly difficult though is it lol

I only buy parts, not labour.

I do the fitting myself.

I would urge anyone to give their local main dealer a try for parts. I have two near me, (one in Sheffield, one in Chesterfield).

The one in Sheffield, (part of the Sytner group), is crap IMHO. I was TOLD to "shift that heap off our forecourt" and the parts monkey had never heard of a 300tdi anything. I never bothered going back.

The one in Chesterfield is staffed and managed by LR enthusiasts, (except one new guy), who are always willing to do a deal where they can on parts prices and seem to know their onions.

For consumable service items, (filters, belts, pulleys, discs etc) they have been litterally within pence of Paddocks, but with the advantage of it being genuine parts. The only things that I have found them to be massively expensive for is some interior trim items.

shhh. interestingly though its both front and back on the left side, so i assume it is a fuse. will sort that later one

what i was gonig to do today i realised wasnt happening - i havent got the wiring kit for my new spotlights:doh:
