Hi

I am wondering if any of you guys, ( & gals) out there could help me in a little/big problem i have.

A week ago, my partner water logged my freelander in a pond of water. Hard to believe, because i am in southern italy, and we are meant to have sunshine all the time. The water level came to above the front bumper, and internally to the level of the seats.

What happened was, graham drove around the corner in the dark, and straight into this flooded road that was like a pond. The fl died in the water. Back window came down and the internal lights stayed on. As you can tell it turned into a sitting duck. Luckily we we able to push it out and tow it to our drive.

It has spent the last week with an external heater inside it, it has been vaccumed out.( we took over 100l of water out). We have hairdried all the electrical component we could see, and cover them all with wd40. We have replaced all the spark plugs and have re- charged the battery.

The current state of play is:-

The back window is still down and we are unable to open the back/boot door.

The indicators don't work, internal dash board light comes on but nothing from the indicator lights.

The immobilser light that was currently on all the time, no longer comes on. And the remote locking system doesn't work. Centeral locking doesn't work. But the windows in the front and sunroof do work, along with the Wing mirrors.

The engine doesn't fire up, but turns over and does kind of attempt. But i have just been told, doesn't even attempt that now.

The horn doesn't work.

Could people give me some suggestions as where to go next, i may have a feeling it has something to do with the alarm system/immobiliser system.
We have taken out the abs webco and dried and wd40-ed too.

I need help, as i need it for work.

Thanking you in advance

Gill.

p.s. My only wish is that it was a series 111, and we could have solved it!!!

Take off rear door card and membrane. Try to borrow a dehumidifier and leave in on in the vehicle for at least 2 days (or until no more water come out of it) with all doors and windows shut (tape some polythene over rear door window. You might be lucky. Remove indicator lights and dry them out. Has the oil level on the dipstick gone up? If so, you have a sump full of water, so change the oil and filter.
Best of luck!

Wow all this and the door haven't fallen off...........yet.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Definately check out all lights n lenses if removable.

Let us know how its goes and good luck

Hi

Update -

It now fires up, but only for about 2 seconds. The back window is still down, and the central locking is still not working. We have had out every single electronic part we can find, and dried them and wd40-ed them.

Depending on how it is feeling, the windscreen wipers will start, and the central locking will go beserk. But then will stop.

I am wondering if the engine not ticking over is connected to the immobilser/security features of the car. If it is where are all the parts/system for it?

Thanks for the jokes and help so far........

Try taking the plastic sill trims off inside the doors. On some vehicles there is a gutter underneath them that contains all the wiring looms. If the water is sitting in there it will play merry hell with yer electrics. Ford galaxys leak water in through the bulkhead when the drains get blocked up. It then runs along and sits in the channels and they then suffer from the problems you describe.

The starting and then cutting out issue sounds like the ECU or throttle pedal potentiometer is still wet. Every time I go out to a vauxhall combo van that the post office has submerged they suffer from the same. Dry the ECU and pedal and they then work again.;)
