Do u mean wading plugs?
If so the idea is to stop the ingress of water entering the hole and into clutch bell housing or timing case and contaminating the clutch or timing belt.
The hole is there to give an indication and allow any oil to flow out in the event of a oil seal failure, oil is not not good for clutch or belt.
So make up your own mind..
If you do not have a clutch or a timing belt you don't require plugs.

Extended breathers are fit and forget, maybe just blow through the lines every so often to stop them becoming blocked.

As said above though, wading plugs are to be removed when not wading or at least check regularly for leaks.

I'll go one step further and say DO NOT leave wading plugs in, remove them when done wading for the day.

land rovers leak lots of oil and it needs to get out!

Sod paying that for a wading kit! Get 25m of this stuffhttp://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=110728316771 then get yourself a few Y-piece push fit connections to join em together. Simples and alot cheaper

What he said ^^^^

I bought 30mtr roll of 6mm OD pipe and 10 Y pushfit connectors. (ya only need 3) cost me about £10 plus P&P and got enough to do 3 landies.
