Vcu dropped

Hello everyone I was driving along and started to hear a lot of banging and knocking noise . I looked underneath and have noticed the vcu has dropped and come apart .luckily my freelander is still under warranty .. Could someone please tell me what's happened to it and why this could have happened ?? Thank you
