Hi. I dont realy have a problem just a question. My 3.9 V8 Discovery has a strong battery and turns over nice and fast, the engine takes about 2-3 seconds to fire up, all good right, but if I keep hold of the key until I know the engine has fired up and relase the key it sounds like the starter is still engaged for about a second. What I do is turn the key for about 2 seconds and release and I find the engine has fired and all is good, almost as if the starter has turned that extra second to allow the engine to fire up.

Am i going mad or is this normal? Does it sound like I have a sticking starter?

Thanks :)

Ive got a 3.9 with a new starter, it does take a little while to crank over, maybe cos theres so much of it!Worries me after driving something else but always starts.

They all do that sir.. It's normal to take around 3 seconds, the reasion is the engine ECU dosen't carry out any checks ie fuel pressure, engine temp. and all the rest of the stuff it does, unless the engine is cranking.
