I bought my 1987 Land Rover 90 in the summer of 2011. I was recently cleaning the engine bay and checked the engine number against that on the v5. The numbers are different. I have amongst the vehicles paperwork an old reciept dated 1997 showing the vehicle had been fitted with a 200tdi engine. This reciept shows the engine number corresponding with the present v5. When completing online insurance quotes the registration entered still shows as '1984-1990 2.5 L DT'. Has anyone come accross similar, if so how did they rectify this with the DVLA.

Thanks -

My 110 is still legally registered as a 110 V8 as it was built. When you look down further it's got a cc of 2495 and is fueled by Heavy Oil

I got my V5 changed when I fitted the 300tdi and that is how it is recorded.

Just fill out the V5 with the correct engine ID and send it back to DVLA. I changed mine when it was converted from TD to 200tdi. Took a couple of weeks for the new form to come back from the DVLA.

Another question for you chaps, have just insured the vehicle, I told the insurer that it was a different engine and they said it was all fine, then I get a form in the post asking me loads of details about it. From the engine number, it looks like it was from a discovery (200tdi) but on the insurance document it says '90 turbo diesel' not 200tdi, does this matter?

No just send it off to DVLA tdi an just tell insurance it's a tdi an you will be fine

Good luck with that. Dvla were a royal pain with me switching engine no. They wanted detailed receipts from a garage listing the source of theengine and proof that it had been professionally fitted. They said an aa report would suffice or a letter from landrover stating the size type and fuel of said engine. Took a fair while and heated discussions to rectify.

I gather from various forums that the dvla are actually trying to be difficult on this one recently....

As I said, good luck!

Do you have a friendly garage nearby ?

If so go and see them they can give you a letter saying the engine has been inspected and that the installation is correct.
This normally satisfies teh DVLA.
They may charge a small amount for this but it will be worth it.
I know of a garage in Tamworth that will do this but it's a bit far for you.
