Hello

Looking for guidance/opinion...

I have had a new 're-manufactured' engine fitted by an indy LR specialist on my 90 2.4 TDCi after sadly the engine blew last year. When work was done last year there is no paperwork other than the invoice to say what mileage this was made at, only a dated invoice for the work.

I have asked the garage twice about it, getting a service stamp or mark in my log book, and really not got a conclusive answer. Fobbed off would the feeling! The customer service was patchy at best.

I was told at the time I collected the 90 with a new engine fitted that the service book would get stamped when the oil change after the 1000 mile run-in was made. But then on returning for the oil change told when I picked it that was not the case as it's not a full service. However when the new engine was fitted with new pipes, and new fuel and air filters, new clutch, etc surely this is a significant part of the history not to be noted officially somewhere in a service log book. Is this correct?

Furthermore. Its a 1 for 1 swap for a 2.4 unit, should I advise DVLA of new engine and track down the engine number to advise them?

Any advice or opinions welcome before I follow up again with the garage in writing.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome:)

Yes inform DVLA of new engine number its simple to do and free, also keeps the car matching paperwork.

As for the service book it is just that. So i wouldnt be too concerned. As long as the invoice is detailed as to what work was done and parts fitted, Thats your history.

+1 to that, the DVLA will issue a new log book with the correct number. I got caught out on this many years ago. I'd put a used engine in my car and meant to get round to telling the DVLA, but time goes by. I was driving to France, got stopped at Dover in a spot check for stolen cars leaving the UK - OK that's a good thing, except my engine did not match DLVA on-line record. They were polite but firm. Luckily someone was in and I put them on the phone and the Police got them to read the number of the engine behind the shed. I was not popular when I got home! Message - do it now!
