Hi,

My 10p cylinder head on my TD5 needs replacing, will buy a new one from Turner Engineering along with fitting kit and new bolts etc.

However, I've been thinking about replacing the 10p with the later 15p, it'll also need the later fuel regulator, but I'm not sure about the injectors. Will the black top injectors be compatible with the later type head?

Cheers,

Chris

I'm not sure on injector colours, but I believe the 15p injectors run at a higher pressure than the 10p ones.
As such the 10p ones can't be fitted to the 15p

Cheers, I've done some research (on various forums) and it would seem that people tend to agree with what you have said, however I emailed Turners today, they confirmed the opposite, that the black top injectors will work fine in a 15p head!

Interesting! As I say I'm not sure what colour injectors where fitted to different heads.
I was always told, you can fit 15p injectors in a 10p head, but not the other way around.

The 15p heads run a different injector cam profile to generate higher injector pressures so the early black top injectors don't have the plunger travel nor the injector body strength. They will physically fit but I don't recommend it. I have fitted later injectors to 10p heads with no issues as they are running well below their designed parameters.

You can not fit the 10p cam to a later 15p head as the cam carriers are deliberately different so they can not be mixed. Same with the injector rocker shaft.

You also can not fit the 10p cam carrier to the 15p head as the cam bearings in the head and carrier are machined together so the head and carrier are matched parts.

It is for this reason refurbished heads come with the carrier and often the cam. Thats the drawback with modern high tolerance engines - parts are not simply interchangeable.
