unhealthy sounding noise !

hi ,
my newly aquired l322 ( 4 wks ) 2002 , 60000 mls , has developed a problem last week the " air suspension . inactive " warning appeared so i checked on here and assumed after looking at old threads that there was not a major problem as it disapeared as quick as it came , it re-appeared again yesterday and has stayed on.
There is also a noise which coming from the drivers front wheel when you have come to a stop and pulled off again and usually turning to the right that sounds like a "small wheel spin" or abs noise !

any advice would be greatly recieved. :(
 
i wouldlove to help but my know how is very limited is it down on the bump stops all round?

car drives fine ,so i guess it's not down on the bump stops , just seems to be from drivers side when turning right and seems to be getting worse , where air suspension inactive used to go out on its own after a couple of hours or so its now permanently on display and will not work.

have you looked at the pads? have you jacked drivers side up if so you could have disloged senser? welcome and no you never billy no mates on here ilook earlyer but had some think to sort out on mine you will get all the help you need. you will also get some stick let us know what you have done looked at to give us a clue where to look next j

Sounds like it maybe a CV joint. Does it make a clicking noise on lock? If it does is is most likely to be a CV. If it just makes a gringing noise it may just be a very worn pad. Down to metal rubbing on disc, but if it's this you should get some sort of noise when braking. Would take a look and check for play in hub bearing also.

hi , thanks for your reply, got car about 4 wks ago , gas converted 1st wk , drove her to and around anglesey 2nd wk with no probs , 3rd wk air suspension inactive started to show , 4th wk now .
i might chk the pads though as it had new pads at lr just prior to me buying it. :)
 
new pads need to bed in can you give us a bit more on noise? as warmmers said clicking would lead us to cv joint wheel bearing , i would jack up and look for wheel movement top to bottem and side to side get back to us with what you find goodluck
 
had a simliar problem with mine, turned out to be left front air spring.looked and drove fine until braking/turning then loud clunking noise,and eas warning on and off.

Noise (Clunk) from Front Suspension:
Jimmy Fang reports "I get an interesting sound coming from the front end suspension when making turns at low speeds. Sometimes it take hitting a bump to trigger the noise but not always. It’s happens mostly when slowing down to pull into a parking lot for instance. It’s been there since I’ve owned the vehicle but the dealership has never been able to fix it. They’ve heard it. They thought it was something to do with the power steering but turns out my truck is not in the VIN range for that problem so now they’re at a loss again. It has not affected the performance of the truck but after the differential problem, I’m just waiting for something terrible to happen. Also, oddly, the sound happens much more in wet weather than dry."

After about 40,000 miles and a lot of tightening of bolts, the dealer noticed some things weren’t wearing properly. So they replaced the following:Lower Control Arm, Lower Strut and Lower Ball Joint. These replacements apparently fixxed the problem.

Anir and Nathalie Dhir report (September 2004) "Like Jimmy Fang, we also have the intermittent clunking noise from the front suspension. The dealership has fixed this on several occasions by tightening up the sway bar bolts, but it always comes back. We do use the car off-road about every 2-3 weeks (mild use)."

hello all , problems all solved , all warnings are now out and suspension back on (fingers crossed) , horrible noise did turn out to be the o/s/f loosing traction , god knows why as all tyres are pirelli scorpians and all have 5mm of tread , did front to back swap and cured problem ! (work that one out ?) . Had alignment tweaked today just for good measure, so problem free motoring from know on , (i wish !).

:mad::mad::mad: bo****ks , f**k , s**t , that will teach me to open my big mouth ! , back to square one after only 100 miles , but at least i know that the weird noise (abs/tyre spin) is linked to the "air sus inactive" warning , as once the warning re appeared and the suspension went off the noise came back on every right turn.:mad::mad::mad:
phoned the local rr specialists who cleared all warnings etc and they say that they need to plug her in again and check the fault codes , apparently there are a number of ecu's which are linked , abs , eas , and steering angle . they are saying that it may be the steering angle sensor which is a rr only job (god knows how much !) i have listed the fault codes from last time so if anyone can advise or has any knowledge regarding the said steering angle sensor it would be most appreciated.

100 art valid fault
50 can bus fault
abs eas can error
90 intermittent system down
steering angle
09 incorrect can message
16 steering angle sensor error

help !

I know nothing about your particular vehicle, but if you are getting CAN Bus messages, it sounds suspiciously like dodgy connections. Is your battery good with sound clean battery connections? Could be a faulty intermittant sensor. The ABS Sensor is not by any chance touching the sensor ring? Could be I'm talking rubbish, but you should not get CAN Bus errors:confused::confused::confused:
 
The Suspension failure warning seems to be quite sensitive, and be trigged by all sorts of things that do not appear to be suspension related, so don't be too blinkered.

Ok problem is with an ABS sensor. These sensors also control the traction control and ABS. When you turn a corner, one wheel moves faster than the other so a sensor that is faulty will tell the traction control that a wheel is losing grip and put the brake on on that wheel to stop it spinning transfering drive to the wheel it thinks has grip. Don't think there is a steering angle sensor as such,steering angle is derived from the difference in readings from the ABS sensors there will be a built in allowance for the Ackerman angles(differences in turning radius of wheels on lock) If you only get it on RH lock, then look at the OS sensor. If it happened on left had lock it would be the NS sensor.

o.k get what your'e saying but how come once eas was back on and working noise went , eas inactive warning now back on and eas not working and noise / slip re accurs instantainiously ? :confused:
