Good afternoon, some advice sought please.
I own a 2006, Freelander 1 TD4.
The vehicle is making what I would describe as a binding noise which is coming from the rear nearside. There is also occasional squeaking.
The noise stops when accelerating through the gears but starts again under deceleration or when coasting.
I initially thought it was a wheel bearing problem so had the R/N/S replaced but the noise continues. There is no vibration I can feel through the vehicle and although I’m no mechanic I don’t feel it’s an issue connected to the prop shaft, VCU, diff etc.
Possibly a brake problem? Any advice welcome, thank you.

The brake splash shield can delimite from the backplate, which then causes a small wafer of steel to rub on the drum.
I'd be looking for that first, also the rear brakes are known to seize up, causing the shoes to drag on the drum. Really the rear brake assembly should be stripped, cleaned of dirt and corrosion, re-lubricated and reassembled on an annual or biannual (2 yearly) basis at the least.
