Have a friends 2.5 N/A Ex MOD 110 that cut out on her a couple of days ago at a junction but restarted after a couple of turns, but now won't start.

Have tried bleeding the lines to the injectors as it's like there is air in the lines. Don't have a filter to change it which was going to be my next step. My suspisions are the either the fuel filter is block or the lift pump has given up the ghost.

Is there any way of testing the lift pump?

check lift pump and pipes to tank, bleeding is done with screw on pump body ingnition must be on,then slacken injector nuts crank till fuell comes out tighten ,start,if you undo outlet from lift pump and work it with outer lever or on starter check if good clean gush of fuel

I tried the lift pump with the feed to the filter off last night and got nothing out but only by hand as I was on my own and counldn't hold the pipe in the bucket and turn the key at the same time. I'll try turning the motor over when I get home with someone else.

How much fuel would oyu expect to come out the injector pipes? they where just driping when I dane them, should there be more of a spray?

Have you tried the pre-heat by letting the plugs glow for 5-10 secs first?

Are you trying to start with your boot to the floor?

Have you tried starting without touching the accelerator pedal?

Some are designed to start without being kicked first!

when you operate pump by hand lever with supply to inj pump disconnected from inj pump you should get a good spurt . If not then work way back thru system .
You dont need to bleed inj pipes as they will do that themselves . you can crack nut at 1 inj to see if getting high pressure feed to inj , but protect eyes, and dont get hands etc near high pressure end as it will inj thru skin !!!

Just to give an update, after more investigations at the weekend and a new set of glow plugs the engine still won't start so the decision has been made to remove it and replace it with a 200tdi. After speaking with the friend that owns it she has said that when she had any weight in it or towing she was struggling for power and had to change down through the box, so it's going.

struggling for power is basically what you get from a 2.5NA that is running at the top of its game! :)

Is the fuel stop solenoid wire disconnected/got a bad connection on top of the injection pump?
