Turbo Hoses

Hi all,
I have an 03 TD4 ES Premium in black. I think I have to change the turbo hoses as they seem a bit soft and are rather oily on the outside although there are no splits. Do these become porous and if so does it cause a problem apart from being rather messy? Car seems to run ok with no faults. Thanks.

They tend to expand and leak from the joints, i had oil all over my engine from 2 of mine which had expanded and let the pressurised oil out. Swapped all mine for silicone hoses which retain their shape better and dont expand, i noticed a performance and smoothness improvement, but i also changed my EGR at the same time so most of it will be related to that.

Hello guys,

i replaced the hoses with DPH Silicone ones and put EGR Bypass from Allisport.

The silicon hoses always get oily outside after driving at 140km/h on the motorway or just high revs over 2500-3000....

K& N air filter is also fitted.

My freelander is Td4 Automatic...

Is this normal with the oily film or is there anything to worry about?

have u done the crankshaft filter and also the small turbo filter that sits at the back of the engine

did u use the wide hose clamps

are all the oils ok and at the correct level etc

mines also a td4 auto and after doing a full service and doing the normal mods found it improved, but also got a synergy fitted which transformed the car

I ordered the clamps together with the slilicone hoses which costed extra..and tightened them very good... however the EGR Bypass has always black oily film where the hose meets the aluminium....I can take pictures...

The crankshaft filter is also changed with the plastik BMW one....

Engine Oil has been changed last november and yesterday i had to pour approx 400ml because the oil was at the minimum according the dip stick scale..

oil in the system is normal, however for the outside of the hoses to be covered means you have a leak somewhere. check they're all fitted correctly and nipped up tight (but not too tight)

They do need retightening. I thought the clips on mine were the wrong size at first and spoke to DPH about it. They just told me to tighten up more. Been fine ever since.

As ses88 said, plus is the camshaft cover ok, have u tried moving the clamps right to the end of the hoses, there isn't a small split in the new hoses is there

just trying to think as I would assume if the fan was spraying any oil it would be everywhere

Where sits the camshaft cover? The clamps are not right to the end of the hoses but could try to relocate them.

Gstuart: Which fan could spray oil? Do you mean the fans behind the heater?

sorry mate was just thinking about the rad fans , if there was oil around there the fans would spray it, take no notice of me , was thinking out load and realised there was nothing around there, realised after re reading me post, ignore that one

the camshaft cover is the one under the inlet manifold that sits virtually on top of ur engine, the gasket sometimes leaks around the edges and was just thinking if any oil could be running down the engine and onto a hose

try redoing the clips, get a torch , wipe all the joints off, then run ur engine and see if anything comes out

hopefully it should just be the case of relocating ur clios and nipping them up, can sometimes be trial and error

did once have a problem like this, removed the hose and make sure there's not rough bits on the egr pipe that would allow oil to pass the hose, could try a bit of emery cloth on the pipe to make sure any rough edges are gone , then refit the hose and clamp

Will do the job with the clips relocating in the next days..

But the leak you mentioned from the gasket/Inlet manifold could be the problem also...because i can spot oil some oily parts...Could that mean that i have a head gasket/camshaft problem?
