hi

wished to put a useful thread together about the turbo and what can cause the error limp mode, may the more experienced members also add any details details please, so that at the end of the day i can compile it all in one accurate thread which i will then copy and paste into the D3 section for further reference

turbo is a borg and warner , there is for some reason different part number according to what MY

there are several things that can cause the limp mode activation

sticky turbo actuator arm
split intercooler hose

variable vanes on turbo can become chocked up with carbon

here is a step by step guide for replacing the turbo

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic80761.html

new cartridge

new VNT ring

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rov...69-Turbocharger-Nozzle-Ring-VNT-/322483535418

actuator arm , to ensure it is moving freely

exchange turbos are currently around £400

thks so much in advance for any useful info etc

a question if i may , if after removing a faulty turbo, could a new nozzle and cartridge assembly be installed or does it req specialist equipment plse , thks

found quite an interesting video

makes it easier to understand if the over boost error comes up ref the sticking vanes

however am wondering if on the removal of the turbo if buying a cartridge and turbo VNT ring and fitted them if u would therefore end up with a new turbo

bet it’s not as simple as that

also i see the turbo actuator arm is moved electronically in the TDV6 and not from a vacuum pipe

I would bet a pint of cider that a lot of the turbo rebuild boys buy in their cartridges!

wondering that myself

if it comes to the stage about having to replace my turbo will look into it more if i can simply buy a new cartridge and VNT nozzle plate and fit it ?????

only thing though would be the actuator motor and arm assembly , believe if replaced has to be set up correctly on a test bench ,

time will tell but good have a better understanding and can look into options
