Hello

Recently, we've purchased a 2002? Defender 110 TD5 "Extreme" as a used car, and subsequent mechanical checks, according to the books, have shown the wastegate to be set incorrectly. IE: It's producing more boost than it should, resulting in a sticky wastegate.

So far, we've found that the vehicle was built 05/2002, TD5 2.5L with a Allied Signal (Garrett) GT20 turbocharger, with the vacuum operated wastegate, not the electronically controlled unit. Engine code is a 15P Landrover "Storm" design, not the later Ford engine.

We're also unsure if the electronics has the modifications that landrover introduced in the MY02 series, improving the low-speed throttle response, to eliminate the jerky power delivery under towing or off-road conditions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated with finding the correct turbo boost pressures.

Thanks
Gary.

I think you've got it the wrong way around - the sticking wastegate will be causing the overboost situation.Free off the wastegate arm and the overboost will go.Do a search - TD5 overboost has been covered loads of times. The wastegate actuator is operated by the boost pressure, not vacuum.
BTW max boost as seen on Testbook should be no more than 225-230Kpa.
