Morning,

Friend of mine has a 110 truck cab with a separate storage container on the back with all his gardening tools and the like, Sunday morning some scrote broke in and nicked all the tools! Landy is safe luckily but hes out £1000 in tools...

It is locked up tight, but the sides have the fold out window lockers*. I suggested fitting a separate alarm in the storage box, at least its something that might get them to run off next time leaving the tools behind, or at least most them. Anyone have any ideas on what alarm could be used?

Thanks for any help

Alarms are only a deterrent. Tell him to fit lots of locks. Perhaps even a big steel bar that padlocks across the front of the locker when it's parked up at night. You can get some pretty good padlocks that are near impossible to cut with bolt cutters.

Hes doing that anyhow. This was Sunday about 11am in the Waitrose car park! In and out in 20 mins

Told him to buy an pedal lock box as well just in case they try the landy next time.

luckily, the majority of intruder alarm equipment on the market in the uk is 12v.

could cobble something together quite easily with a separate 12v battery, a few magnetic contacts, a relay, keyswitch and a sounder.

the circuit would be really simple, and if you pick something like the 4 element sound bomb, would be quite attention grabbing.

oh, best throw in a few fuses too just for safety

What about wiring into the circuit that feeds the door light switches and fit similar switches to the locker doors ? Should set off the vehicle alarm.
