Right. I got some insa turbo dakars for my disco, which at first seemed ok in the mud and loose gravel. But now ive found my off road feet they just don't seem to have the grip I need.

My question is: Is there any tyres that give better traction for the money than insa turbo special track's?

I've spoke to few people and they seem to think there isn't a better tyre (for traction) for the money. I'm not bothered road noise, just traction.

265/75/16 60 quid + VAT from paddocks.

The ones i've seen and am considering are the recip's, probably the 3d's
Mail Order 4x4 RECIP Remould Tyres

Anybody got any of these and recommend them?

if your gettin stuck with those tyres on maybe you're doin somethin wrong!
have driven a few landys with these on they are very good. not as good as some like the special track but are good none the less.
tyres are only good if all wheels have traction. if you are doin really extreme stuff maybe you should consider axle diff locks?

It's steep muddy slopes im struggling with. Im using the same technique as other people I go with. They're in discos, the same as mine. Diff lock engaged they have insa special tracks I don't, they get up the slope, I don't. It's nothing but traction from the tyres. I go with experienced people and they say its the tyres.

Axle diff locks are much more expensive than a set of tyres. Id rather try them first and take it from there.

I'm not getting stuck, just struggling for traction on gradients.

I've tried every gear... first, second, third. Run up, no run up. can't get traction.
So enough about my abilities, what tyres do people recommend?

Well:

Hate ta point out the obvious but.
Are yer sure yer diff locks workin? :boink:

That's what I was going to say. Or maybe its down to technique.
ITS NOT YER TIRES!!!!!!!!!:boom:

Why not borrow a set of wheels and tyres off your mates on the day and try EXACTLY the same way you drive now ... that'd show you whether it's you or the tyres and give you a clue as to what will suit you and your driving ... or not!

If they're not your mates are you SURE the Disco's are the same, other than the tyres?

If you're not grounding out it's be extremely rare for MT's to struggle, unless there are other factors .. you don't carry, for instance, a roofrack full of tents and other ****e?

i got a set of khumos on mine 75 pound each all in from amd in leicestershire and i aint got stuk yet in the bleek deep mud of winter

i got 235 85 16 insa dakar an was amazed at how well they handle, letting me go down lanes i would of needed towing out of before,
it must be a crap driver:rolleyes: :mooning:
