Hi! New to the site and in need of advice!

I really don't like paying out for insurance, I will repair things myself and if I stuff the car into a ditch, its my fault afterall and I should pay the cost. Same if I back into something, its my fault, i'll pay.

If it gets nicked, again its my fault as I wasn't paying attention or i'd left it somewhere stupid in an 'easy to steal' configuration.
Consequently my insurance (the minimum I can get away with) is a pint shy of £100 a year and has (unfairly IMO) crept up from £63 five years ago.

Long overdue update!

So after a very long summer of looking and traveling all over to try out landies I did in the end find one that I wanted.

She's no show pony, thats for sure, just a good old working pick up with a whole tonne of dents and scratches.

LOVE.HER.TO.DEATH!

Honestly, she probably will kill me as there is so much work to be done on her. But I hope I'm doing my bit to keep them from going extinct!

Thanks for all the advice, no doubt I'll be badgering you all some more when everything starts to break (that isnt already broken!)

If its solid underneath, mechanics can be sorted with a few spanners.
Looks usable landy though.

Glad you have found one, don't look to bad for a worker, chassis and bulkhead first for any repairs and preservation. Would not worry about dents an scratches to much, part of the charm.

Dents / scratches? from a fender point of view looks like a minter to me!

Keep the 'patina' and fix it mechanically.
To make it less 'stealable' paint it green and purple with an overloaded 2" paintbrush and/or buy some stick on rust patches.

I dont intend on bodywork repairs, I like all the dents, part of her history. Chassis is ok, a few repairs but solid enough to last a good few years while I save for a galv. Bulkhead does have some rust in the usual places which will need addressing, in fact thats the first big job I think will need doing. It's not terrible, I've seen much worse, but it is my no.1 concern.

Also, I thought she was a 19j but she has had a 200tdi put in thats done about 80k. I'm going to guess its a disco 200, not the native landy version. I'll post a pic at some point to see if anyone can confirm.

For now though, Im slapping on some lanoguard for winter and fixing all the niggles I can that dont cost a fortune.

Recon she was a 19j [ couple of little clues I can see ] Take a pic of exhaust side of engine.
Slap on your preservative of choice [ mine is diesel and fresh engine oil ] and remember to get it into the inner chassis rails. Plenty of threads on good preservation methods on here.
Mine is similar age and chassis bulkhead has had only minor welding over the years despite being a working farm truck that lives by the sea.

That’s a very tidy Landy! Make sure you invest in lots of decent security measures for it before anything else. There are lots stolen in Surrey and the Home Counties. Be careful where you leave it parked too.

Thanks for the tips. Xmas hols are incoming so I'm reserving some time for a proper under-clean and then get her protected! Diesel and engine oil looks like it does the trick!
