Hi all I have a 1998 p38 it was a 4.0 but the engine gave up so put in a good 4.6 at same time also put 4.6 gear box in so it's all 4.6 running gear now what I want to ask is has any body had a tornado re map what do you think of it and what gains will I get from doing this thanks for any info

I'm kind of familiar with Tornado mate, but them with RB199's in, not the 4.6. So not much use to ya. :)

Some one who appreciates Turbo-Unions efforts in Military Aircraft Propulsion....

The mk104's were Awesome...that low bass roar, reminds me of my childhood (Father is ex-RAF was a Harrier Pilot - did Tornado Conversion training at Cottismore but his eyesight was failing so was offered a desk creating the Moving Map films for the Harriers, Jags and Tornados until they went digital....

Ah Harrier pilot, big respect to him, such a shame to see them canned. At least the Tonka's have a few more years yet. Provided uncle Dave and co don't stick their oar in

Anyway's, what the heck is a tornado re-map!?

You'll get a few more HP or maybe 0.5 MPG more with a light right foot, but nothing that'll knock your socks off. Mark designed the Tornado chips essentially to improve the mid range lean map on the GEMS P38 in an effort to prevent the slipped liner issue possibly contributed to by lean burn when on cruise, i.e. light throttle motorway driving which causes, in his opinion, the engine to operate too lean and too hot. My Thor 4.6 also slipped it's liners though.......(maybe the Thor MAP is also lean, hmmm). I ran them in my '98 4.6 with stainless sports exhaust and while I don't regret buying them, was pleased to sell them once removed from the car for £450 when I sold the car. If you have £650 burning a hole in your pocket, go for it!

Just at the moment I am thinking of trying to get a bit more power and a better drive from the range ie don't have to stick the pedal to the floor to get it going or do I just go and get a x5 I really like the p38 but am starting to seriously think about a v8 x5

If you got that kinda cash get an L322.....

X5's, Cayenne's, Mercs' et al are just a joke....

Yes LR vehicles are plagues with reliability, but they are designed from the get-go to be as good off road and on.....Land Rover are a company with well over 60 years off road design....the other car manufacturers are just doing it because they want a piece of the pie....

I am SO with you on this one . These are luxury Sedans with four wheels drives for maximum safety. A RR is a Luxury Sedan than will, if necessary, put you out of the most delicate configuration off road. A true versatile car.

Sedan?

It's not a feckin' chair!

So what's so bad with the power of the 4.6? It's no rocket ship, but still does 0 to 60 in 9.6 seconds, that's faster than many family estates. Come a corner you'll feel sick with the body roll at high speeds. The Rangie is not a sports car (Land Rover may have you think the RR Sport is though.....). If you think the 4.6 engined P38 isn't sporty enough for you then you've chosen the wrong car, an all round and very capable, spacious & comfortable 4x4. Get a big engined X5 if you really want speed, but worse off road, and less documented forums for support - yes, they go wrong as well!
