right i was gonna buy one of the proper kits but cba to spend dat much so gonna do it on the cheap and get a fan of summit half decent at cooling like pug diesel or ford but i cnt just av it on a switch as the wife prob wnt keep up with keepin track and forget to turn it on when needed so i need a fail safe that i know will work when im not there to keep an eye on it

so i wanna find out what is a gud way to fit a temp sensor in it for the fan iv seen the probe things but i dnt get how your ment to get in in the pipe and keep it sealed up so i wud rather have a decent pipe with one in but £60 odd is to steep so i think an escort one will do but i dint know if the temp it came in and out was gonna good for the landy system tbh as its perminatley got some cooling with the viscous fan on it so is a 90c cut in and an 80c cut out gonna keep things sweet on the 300 tdi.

Assuming that the cooling system in your TDi is in good shape, you can safely remove the viscous fan and replace it with..............................NOTHING !!!

I have run half a dozen TDi's now all without fans, all year round even when towing, with no adverse effects whatsoever.

Obviously your cooling system needs to be in good order, so it's down to you to ensure that. But assuming it is, your vehicle will run quieter, more economically and slightly nippier.

yeah iv looked at the inline ones but i was planing on getting one off of an escort as it does the same thing and is cheap or free and i cant get a new switch easy but i didnt no the running temps it used to be at

and i happend to forget my brother worked at the place that they prepare the camel landys for competions and the used the therstat with the probe and run in in a perticular place on the rad and its perfect so i think that is the way

there is nothing wrong with my system as far as i know it holds good temp and holds all water has firm but not solid pipes and no cream in the cap.

my reaseon for the want to remove the viscous is mainley driveabilitey ie: more response and econemey as they can add up to 8% to your mpg so its ready to go for me plus vicous fans have a habit of sitting idle in the winter and in summer they dont cut it when needed as the wax/oil has degraded or just pack up working like a few of mine have and you never know if its workin propley do ya?

and a leky fan is on or off so easy peasy and i dont think i could run with out one tbh

I took my fan off a while back, i noticed bugger all difference in noise or warm up time, its back on now as paranoia got the best of me and i didnt want to risk cooking a good engine, too many people told me that by the time the gauge reaches the top, its too late.

It takes about one mile more to warm up, maybe 2 or 3 minutes less than with the fan on. If the viscous unit is fully working, it cant be beaten. The only argument i see is if you are mud-plugging or deep wading.

I know which side of the fence i am staying on, and my peace of mind makes me more relaxed now. :)

I agree with dave, if mine wasn't a dedicated offroader I would be viscous all the way. Just fit a new unit, theyre peanuts.

Alls I'm saying is you dont necessarily need a fan if you dont want to run one, for whatever reason!
