Hi,

I am 20 from the UK. I currently drive a 1.6L BMW 316i SE. I live in Devon (which is fairly rural) and have got stuck in my car 3 times! 2 of which required a tow from a 4x4's. Since then, I have been looking at 4x4's. I'd like one so that:

1. I don't get stuck everytime I go 1 foot off the road.
2. So I can have some fun.

I am not looking for a hardcore 4x4 and I only have about £3500 to spend, so there is no need to get a Defender or a Land cruiser. I just want something for a bit of fun that would also be suitable to use for my daily commutes. (50 mile round trip) I'd be coming from a BMW, so I don't really think anything like a Suzuki Jimny would suit me very well... (not being snobbish, but I gotta be honest) I noticed the Freelanders, and they do look good in my opinion, although I am well aware to stay away from the 1.8 K-series engine model.

Is the Freelander a good choice for me? Will it do better MPG than what I currently drive? (BMW 316 1.6) I am not the type of person who likes to waste money on fuel and I am no petrol head either! I'd pick efficiency over power any day.

Also, does the Freelander always drive in 4x4 "mode"? And do they all come with PAS?

Thanks. :)

Excellent choice :) possibly want a diesel and maybe even an auto , yes constant 4x4 and im pretty sure they all come with PAS , still nothing wrong with the 1.8 i`ve got one and as long as you throw money at it , it behaves very well :D Welcome to the loonyzone ;)

Thanks for your quick response. I think I'd avoid the 1.8 Freelander on fuel consumption alone. I want something more efficient than my 1.6 BMW as it is, and I still don't know for sure whether a 2000cc Freelander diesel would work out cheaper.

I have one other question though, do the older Freelander diesels have turbo's? (I know the Td4 does, but I'm not sure about the older Di's)

Thanks again. :)

Have to say the freelander 1.8 aint too bad on fuel but it aint great
Cant say i know about the earlier freelanders having turbo`s or not but there are plenty of people on here who will , Just expect a lot of flack for wanting a "gaylander" and you will be fine :) . There is a lot of fun and banter on here as well as some very knowledgeable people ,best of luck in your eventual choice :)

A gaylander ya want a fooking gaylander?? are ye mad man? stark raving mad? ye must be. FFS if you want to go to heaven when you die, don't buy a foooking gaylander. God will never forgive you.

They're ****e. slow as anything, cost a fortune in parts, and I mean more expensive than RR spares. and they'll spend more time in the dealers then they do on your drive.

OOH yes and the doors fall off if they get wet. :D

You guys can call me gay the day I get drunk and go out and buy a RAV4.;)

Has some **** called you Gay?? I wouldn't stand for that fooking ****s. Honestly some of the people on here are outrageous. Have a chat with Slob, when he gets here he'll be able to do something about it. He's Admin don't you know?

But while yer here don't ferget what ever you do don't buy a gaylander. By the way what car did you say you drove now?

Fook aye I lived in Torbay (torquay to everyone else)for 6 months place is full of coffin dodgers, and if you go outside of torbay it'sfull of OOOOOOOOh AAARRR corn chewing goat shaggers.

Dont do it I bught a 2004 in Oct and sold it in November. The dealers are mostly crooks and the cost for repairs are outrageous, not to mention even calling land rover is a waste of time. Buy a Jav vehicle and dont look back

I drive a 1999 XEDI 2 L Diesel. Mine has got 163000 km's on it and still running fine, appart from my aircon that hasn't been running from the start. It does come out with a turbo. I get about 10L per 100Km don't know gallons etc...
If you take care of it and avoid having it fixed by a main stealer, you can get away cheaper when you need to fix it. There are enough technicians and experts out there to avaid the dealers. It is a lovely car if you don't need speed.

go for it mate!!!

avoid the petrol and try for a td4 if you can

i've had 3 freelanders, 1 petrol and 2 td4's.....

1.8 skinned me alive but thedoozle ones are excellent to drive and good on fuel too.

dunt listen to the wellie wearing traaaaaaaater boys:D

they cant handle modern technology:rolleyes:

dunt buy a slitty what ever you do!!!!
