Hi all,

Looking to upgrade all my steering components, going for heavy duty tie rod, etc. I also want to put the terrafirma RTC steering damper on it. I've seen a few reviews for it on other sites going both ways, bad and good, but most of those people had not actual had one on their defender just people making comments. Has anyone actually installed one and had use of it on and off-road, and want to give their opinion of it?

thanks in advance,

Yup i got one.

Becos my tyres are 33/12.50R15 it was straining the powersteering pump massivly.

So i added the RTC damper. Although this DIDNT RTC by itself it has made the steering alot easier and my PAS doesnt whine all the time now.

I expect with smaller tyres the RTC would work properly.

like this one i just fitted

I got a rtc, stops the ****er wonderin, its more notice it at high speed, but make sure you get it set up correctly as other wise it will just pull to one side all the time, i got to tweek it a touch to the right. would never go without one again i will say that!

I have one on my 90 - it makes the steering a lot easier with 33's on it. As an earlier post confirmed, it does not self centre but makes it less taxing on my leaky PAS!

Thanks for all the feed back everyone, just made the purchase of RTC damper. Should have my new stronger tie rod and drag link within a few weeks so I'll get it all on the truck soon, and get it on the trails for a good test.

Can someone correct me here because I know I'm probably wrong because of all the positive replies, but if when you go on full lock, don't you stretch/compress the spring on the damper? If that happens I would have thought it would be heavy to steer, but consequently lighter when you undo?

You mean the steering gets harder as you tighten the turn ????

WLM at least you have a good taste in Tyres Dynapro MTs ;)

I have one fitted to my lifted 90 and it works well. it does not rtc fully but helps alot. It has in no way made the steering harder but does look good :)

Same effort required to compress/extend the spring. The gas strut damps (!) sudden impact.

What I mean is, get hold of a spring, compress it and let it go back to normal, whats harder compressing it or letting it go back to normal? Obviously it's harder to compress a spring. So I thought steering would become heavier and undoing lighter

I noticed no difference, feels the same lock to lock, doesnt make it harder to turn.
Fair enough :D as I said before I was probably wrong in saying it makes it heavier because of all the good replies about them :bounce:
