Hi there, my wife has just bought a 1994 factory fitted TDI auto Range Rover. Now I know that LR did fit the diesels but what percentage TDIs compared to V8s. Anybody any idea. BTW we bought the RR cos her Disco had rotted out and could not find any straight Discos. Got to say though, we are thoughly enjoying the tdi Range Rover.

Cheers

Yes we were, had to do a 500 mile round trip to get it . Bought it from a dealer, 2 lady owners, 81,000 miles with service history . As soon as we saw it we said we would have it and the dealers phone was ringing off the hook whilst we were there. We have done 2,000 miles since the begining of March and so far no problems, in fact it is the sweetest tdi engine that I have ever come across.

Cheers

Oil everything and enjoy it - that is about as good as it got if you want a 4wd drive thats comfy, capable and fixable.
The bonnets WILL last if they are painted and rust proofed properly.I put a new one on the 200tdi that I bought about 10 years ago.It was done properly and is still 100%. The rest is a bit rotten,I've just bought it back with 232,000m on it for the engine to go in a SIII project.

The 200 TDI went in from October 1992, replaced by the 300 TDI in March 1994. I think production finally ended in February 1996, maybe a little before. I can`t find production figures which split out diesel from petrol but about 15,000 Classics in total were produced in each calendar year 1992 to 1994 inclusive, and from September 94 on I think more diesels might have been produced than previously (because I think only the TDI had a manual gearbox option at that point , all petrols were auto). The RRR might well be able to help but none of my books have much more detail than above.

I very much doubt it, the VM went in during the peak production years but my recollection is that it was never that popular in UK models and attracted quite a lot of negative publicity around reliability at the time.

Hi there, I have seen 2 other tdi engine RRs and both of them like ours were autos.

Women don't have to worry about oil and water because they have blokes like me keeping an eye on things. This one BTW has not needed any oil top ups in three thousand miles since we got it. As I said earlier best tdi I have ever come across, quiet, good on fuel, not the quickest but still good. Thanks for the info IGP50, much apprieciated.

Cheers

No worries, they are a great car. I bought a 4.2 LSE and some shares in BP instead.
