Hi everyone can you tell me what's the advantage of removing the middle box on a td5 ?
When I bought my td5 the previous owner told me he had removed centre box had egr bypassed and a remap
Now I can see the egr bypass and the new straight through pipe underneath
And it certainly goes very well when pushed but I think it's a little loud
It's a 2001 auto but I'm only getting 25/27 mpg and I'm a steady driver
What affect will replacing the middle box have to quiet it down on power and mpg
Cheers

Hi Ian, replacing the centre silencer box for a straight-through on TD5's is a popular mod but imo it doesn't suit autobox cars as they tend to 'drone' - not a pleasant noise. I also found that it didn't help with with power or mpg.

So here's what I would do:

1. Check to see if your exhaust downpipe has a cat in it - if it has, replace with a non-cat pipe;

2. Replace the centre silencer box;

3. Replace the air filter;

4. Clean the MAP with aerosol brake and clutch cleaner.

If you do the above the car will run better and more economically. Expect 30-32mpg depending on driving style.

Yeah I agree about the "drone"
It's already got a itg air filter ill put the middle box back in and see what happens
Cheers
