Hi all, I've got a td5 defender hardtop, ex electricity board, that I use for work. It's a heavy beast at 2.8 ton with all my kit in it. It definitely lacks pull and I think it's down primarily to the weight. I've de cat it and taken centre box off, improvement. I'm running 285 75 16 ATs on it. Does anyone know of a reliable remap place in central Scotland, Perthshire ideally or close that could do a towing/economy remap? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'm getting average 23/24 mpg. Most of my driving is country lanes and 55ish on main routes. Occasionally have to tow a trailer which makes it worse on pulling. Thanks.

similar set up to you only mines a 300tdi,pulls 78 flat out down hill on the m way though i think the td5 has more bhp than a 300 tdi,i get 30-35 mpg so somethings not right with yours

I had a similar issue - got a 2002 110 Td5 which I regularly tow 3.5 tones with.

Wasn't too impressed when I first towed with it and investigated various things to see if it made any difference but nothing.

Got a stage 3 map done by Alive tuning (via Rovertune in Reading) and the difference was shocking. Specifically asked for the map to be for towing/economy and I can now tow full loads without a queue behind me!!!!

For example, full load previously on one hill would be down the second/first gear. Same load, same hill after re-map and I'm in forth and still pulling!!

Best mpg without trailer is 33mpg (long run to the Alps at steady 60 mph) and with trailer roughly 25 ish.

Worth phoning Alive to see if they have anyone near you who can do the re-map

HTH

before you do an of that.

Have you serviced it? checked for oil in the injector loom? cleaned your MAP and MAF sensors? Had it read for faults? Checked the turbo for wear etc?

Does it smoke? how many miles does it have on it?

What I'm trying to say is, make sure its not anything simple before you go and blow money on a re-map that might not make any difference or could make a neglected engine worse.

Try the easy less expensive stuff first and then spend money on it.

It's done 127k miles, MAF sensor changed, doesn't smoke, injector loom changed. I must admit I haven't had diagnostics on it but I would have thought the management light would have come on if a fault in there.

Td5s rarely bring on the management light. My TD5 gets sluggish when the MAP sensor needs cleaning. Wastegates also like sticking which again causes em to feel sluggish or to over boost and then go into a limp mode which restricts power.
