Evening all,
Its been a long time since I posted here. Found many a helpful TD5 Disco related thread, thanks for those by the way, really saved my ass a few times! However, I've never found anything which quite matches what I have had for the last couple of years.
So, I bought this 2003 Discovery 2 TD5 about 2 years ago. It had a few issues when I bought it, knackered MAF, oily loom, dodgy air suspension sensor, ABS sensor etc etc, fairly standard stuff really by what I could read on here.
I had heard that the TD5 was gutless at low revs so thought mine was normal, this was until I drove my mates 2000 disco TD5. At low revs it was much more responsive and faster off the line. At high revs there wasn't much difference that I could notice. I had a very similar experience with another friends 2002 td5, much quicker than mine. None of the 3 cars had the EGR blanked or had been tweaked in any way as far as the engine was concerned.
I've got a new job and I’m commuting 70miles a day. problem is, its doing 22mpg. 23 on a good day. I'm on normal tyres and I’m not carrying excessive weight. Now I do have a roof rack fitted but it shouldn’t be at 22mpg for that. So, I’m looking to fix everything I can and starting with the power at low revs as I'm sure that will be having an impact on mpg.
I've got a Nanocom and cant see anything shining out as the issue

Work I’ve done so far:
New OEM MAF,
New injector loom, Cleaned the oil residue from the ECU, Checked the inside of the ECU for oil, all clean.
Cleaned the MAP and the AAP. I've also swapped the MAP and AAP from another disco, no improvement.
New filters all round
Tested resistance on the glow plugs, all in range.
Had a fault with the Accelerator pedal a while back, fixed that with contact cleaner, never seen the fault since
Had a lovely fault where the cam lobe on cyl 5 disintegrated, had a 2nd hand head put on (with the injectors from the donor engine). no power improvement.
Probably done more but cant remember.

I've still got the EGR valve in place and I want to keep it there for now. Once the engine is running better I'm planning on EGR removal, de-cat pipe, stage 1 remap. But... I want to know its running right first before I mask an issue.

Thanks in advance, Fraser

Well, the EGR is pretty clean, moves ok.
How about fuel pressure, what failures do you get with the pressure regulator? The fuel pump isnt the quietest but not noisy per say.

another common issue is the clogged CAT, i dont care about your's UK MOT regulations, go somewhere out of the city, undo the downpipe from the turbo and make a test drive this way neglecting the sound...if you'll feell happy with the power this way that's the problem and find a way to fix it without being stressed about MOT
