Can Any body tell me if i need specialist tools for the fitting of this fuel pump please??

No. It can be a frustrating job though. Be prepared to get a bit of arm ache and to walk away and have a cup of tea to save spitting your dummy out.

You may want to order a new pump retaining ring to aid re-fitting. It's summit I regretted when I fitted mine a few weeks back

The pump is spring loaded and a small lug on the side sits in a slot. you need to push down, line it up and then get the retaining ring on and started off before you can release the pressure. The less fuel you have in the tank the better. My tank was brimmed when I did mine.:(

Here's the link to when when we changed mine.

Luckily for you you don't need to drill a big hole in your floorpan.:eek::eek:

The new pump will come with a rubber seal/grommet on it. Remove it from the pump and fit it on the tank before trying to drop the pump in. If you have a compressor to blow any loose mud, s**t, debris etc away from the top of the tank before removing the retaining ring it will help.

A small smear of grease on the retaining ring before re-fitting will help too. As will a blunt cold chisel or similar to tap the retaining ring off and on again with.

Hi all,
Update on my TD5 problems.

Spoke to a Land Rover specialist today and he tells me that the early TD5s are known for heads cracking internally... Thats why, he says, i,m getting diesel in the oil and the over heating issues.
So i,m dead in the water.. £2750 i paid for this motor back in August 2010.
As much as i hate to give up I think i,m beat..Just bought a brand new fuel pump at £100..!!!!:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

I thought you'd got that sorted?... Or are you just following the exact same path that I took?

If you need to have a vehicle on the road and are happy to pootle around locally I have a cracked head here that will allow the vehicle to be driven as long as you stay below 50mph. (It will pressurise the coolant system if there's too much turbo boost). I did 3000 miles on it. Yer welcome to it if you want it.

Your only other options are to buy a new head at £1300, a good secondhand head (if you can find one, I picked one up complete with injectors for summit like £250 or £300) , Buy a secondhand engine off fleabay for around £1500 or sell it as is for around £1500 and cut your losses.

The pump you bought will sell again for the £100 you paid on ebay so no great problem there.

if it still drives, drain the oil and refill- take to an auction and sold as seen-your get a lower price but no comeback.

Thats why you should only buy motability or fleet at an auction.

Mine was ex-fleet and the head was buggered on that.:(

Found a refaced/resurfaced head on ebay with a warranty for £700 so gonna rebuild it all and then sell it.:D:D:D
Thanks for the offer of that head though...:)
Found diesel and anti freeze in the sump...So 99.9% certain that the head is stuffed.

Looks like the head is well and truly stuffed..Gonna have it pressure tested on Monday and then i,ll know for sure. Could get lucky and it could just be a head gasket issue in which case i,ll have it refaced and overhauled..Then refit and sell..

heated test ask ratty

What he said ^^^^^^^.;)

My head passed a couple of sniff tests and was pressure tested when it was skimmed and came up as being ok. Unfortunately it wasn't. I made them take it back off and test it again as I still wasn't happy. It turned out the head did jhave a crack in it that didn't show the first time around but did when they heated it up.

Great.. This scenario gets better by the hour...
I,ve had 5 Disco 200 TDIs and this was my first TD5... Will never have another...:violent::violent:

Look at turner engineeering or paddocks spares for injectors, and required seals for each of them, and buy it yourself and get garage to fit it, it might save you a 100 and I see you are really having a bad time of it, me too so all sympathy. Ask all questions, however silly you feel at least garage will be more cautious.ask how they know its the injector and not just the copper seal on the bottom of it, who tested the injectors? find out, call them to check, these are unusual injectors not so many places can heck them.

Michael.

Dont need a garage...I,m a mechanic myself and injectors are not a problem now.:confused::confused:

I'm happy with my TD5 but I have to admit that it has been more trouble than all my previous landys put together.:(

Hello again Mate,
Put a Reconditioned head on my TD5 coz the other one was stuffed after head gasket failed big time.
Can you tell me if i need to use a computer to reset all the injectors again please.?? Using the same injectors.
