TD5 extension loom - making my own

Do you reckon you could make your own loom from say this:

Land Rover Defender 110 02 Onwards Td5 Chassi Loom | eBay

Way too expensive to buy one from a company.

Thought about having a go at building my own.

If you mean an extension to the TD5 Engine ECU loom, then no. The ECU Connectors are on the Main Harness, not the Chassis Harness.

The Chassis Harness runs from the engine side of the bulkhead, down though the O/S chassis rail and exits out at the back for the rear lights, fuel tank, etc...

The ECU Connectors are AMP Econoseal, but I've only ever seen the Black one for sale, never the Red one. I don't know if they're keyed differently, or if they're interchangeable.

Another drawback is that the Male connector is only available as a PCB Header.

The Black Connector is available from Polevolt - ECU Connectors: Polevolt Ltd

What exactly do you mean?

I'm not familiar with the td5, I don't know where the ecu is or where you would want to extend it to.

Basically i have a TD5 fender and the ECU is under the drivers seat. I wouldnt mind moving it out of harms way. So the idea was to extend the ecu cables in and out of the ecu so i can move it.

PM The Mad Hat Man.

He should be able to make you an extended loom. BOTH cables..... and a waterproof box is required.

I did that a while ago ratty, there a massive saving on the manufacturers ones but there still £200 odd quid.

I was just wondering if i could make me own to save the cost.

As pointed out by PaulMc though it appears to be a non starter. :(

Nevermind, just an idea

So your not brave enought to cut one wire at a time, solder in & heat shrink a new piece of wire, until all 1 billion wires are extended.
Must admit I'm tempted to do it myself, but holy s*** if it doesn't run.

What about an auto sparky, can they get ecu plugs. You must be able get the plugs seeing as you can buy the leads.

BGB instead of extending loom how about making a water proof box for ecu to sit in.
I have been thinking about it and might now give it some more thought

My company sells a TD5 extension cable that terminates in an IP6 rated box - but yu better take out a mortgage - they is feckin expensive!

ask Bucky for pics - he has one.

yu cant have a completely sealed box, because the ECM has to breathe. If it is sited well , it will stop water sufficiently till yu get thru the wet stuff.
to be honest, if yu mount it on a rear bulkhead (like Bucky), by the time the water covers the box, yu are in deep doodoo and wanting breathing apparatus.
