Td5 battery

Can anyone recomend a good battery for a 2001 td5 discovery i will be fitting a 6hp winch. Thanks Dan.

the biggest tractor battery you can get in there mate + it will last a couple more years longer than a standard 1 (lot cheaper than the optima's etc)

I got a truck battery in my TD5 and have no probs

so i does not matter which battery i use as long as its 12volts? i thought if i just put on some random battery it might mess with the electrics as theirs too many on the td5 lol or will it be with any old 12volt battery? maybe summat like this? Thats the sorta thing ya want. Just measure the battery tray first to make sure it'll fit. Thats still smaller than the one I'm running in my defender.

Also looking to purchase a new battery for 2003 Discovery 2 Td5. Looking at these options:

• Caterpillar Part No. 115-2422 (1000 CCA) at AUD 336.14 from William Adams in Sunshine West
• Exide Extreme 31-1100MF (1100 CCA) at AUD 210.00 from Comet Battery in Sunshine North
• Supercharge MF31-931 Gold Plus (1000 CCA) at AUD 233.13 from SuperCharge Batteries in Sunshine West

Checked spec's on these three and they are all 100% as far as fitment into existing battery tray is concerned. Don't have a winch so don't need a dual battery set-up.

I did overhaul the starter motor solenoid a few years ago and I wondered whether a CCA that is "too high" can possibly damage (wear out) the copper contacts in the starter motor solenoid over a reduced period of time? Any thoughts?

I know the original (Genuine) battery in the 2003 Disco Td5 was LR Part No. YGD100860 - Delphi Freedom (Part No. 19001340 and 800 CCA).

Don't know where the above three batteries are manufactured - I believe most for the Aust/NZ market are made in South Korea or the Philippines - maybe only some Century batteries still made in Australia (Queensland)?

Under standing CCA, which is a maximum starting capacity of the battery... should if be required.

Think I'll go with the Exide Extreme - looks good for the price; was hoping the Cat battery would be cheaper.

The cost is about right for that style of battery around £111.00. At today’s exchange rate with AUD.
Exide Extreme 31-1100MF appears, from my quick search, not to be available in the UK
