(UPDATE) was the remote again,75quid later and it works.wonder how long this one will last ? . Hi all haven`t posted for a while ,not had any issues until now,d3 tdv6, 06.
went to the car this morning and it was already unlocked, opened drivers door and the alarm went off and wouldn`t turn off.
sorry for the long post. any how, the remote is a couple of years old and never had a problem, battery on car showing 11.7 volts.
never had a battery issue before ,managed to lock car but then wouldn`t open except from passenger side with key
and then alarm went off wouldn`t turn off with buttons or disconnecting battery, only when i started the car the alarm stopped ,have had a issue with lower boot switch intermittantly working, what i am asking is if it was a low battery why would the car start
but not lock or unlock. battery now on charge battery test says it was low. could this be the issue. any sensibly`ish replies much appreciated. thanks.

How old is the battery?
If only doing short commute you'll be lucky to get two or three years out of a battery.
I assume you have checked it is charging?
Hi and thanks for replying, had car about three years battery already on,
battery tester says alternator is ok and also says battery is good.
but now i am thinking remote, bought this about two years ago and had it programmed and had no problem until now.

I don't have a disco, but had similar problems with my defender tdci. When the battery got low on volts - recorded as low as 11.9 volts before putting the key in - it would set off the back-up alarm when the key was turned but start ok and the alarm would stop sounding. No problems after recharging the battery when this happened. The battery volts used to drop off after a few weeks lack of use, I have additional security items fitted which drains the battery quicker than what I would expect normally. No problems of this kind when the truck is in regular use.

also if the main battery was low would this cause the key fob to lose contact with the car.
If you google battery voltage chart you will se that 11.7 is pretty much shagged.
Lots of people think a 12 volt battery is 12 volt, when in fact it is 12.6v when in good health (something you will never see on a d3!) batteries typically have 6 cells at 2.1volts per cell x 6 gets you the 12.6 figure.
Most modern cars incl d3 are very battery heavy.

Iirc the fob does have a battery in it, though when in the ignition in the car it does charge the fob battery, so maybe new fob battery first then the main battery?

Only the one fob present?

thanks for your teply, and yes only one working fob ,bought this one after the old one packed in.funny thing is similar problem.checked fob battery voltage comes back at 3.33v battery is 3.6 volts.i will do as you mentioned and try fob first ,and then main battery, just checked when i bought this fob and it was january last year. so is it possible for the fob to lose contact with the car.my icarsoft just gives me loads of fault codes saying a lot of things have lost contact with the car but not the remote .

ok cheers, will try the simple things first and then may have to delve deeper ,thanks.

If you have or can get a handbook for the car, it should have information for indications of a need to change the battery. For example - reduced number of flashes from the indicators on pressing lock / unlock. There might also be a set procedure for changing the battery in the fob, such as might need to be done while inside the car and within a set time.

ok thanks, the only strange thing was when it did decide to un lock the indicatores flashed really fast about twenty times and then i ended up with this problem, cheers.

Plus 1

Plse also check the passenger side door sill is not filled with water along with the green splice issue

If u do a quick search it will go into more details about the green splice issue

U can also charge ur key fob using a toothbrush base charger but indeed always best to have 2 x keys

Alas the fob batteries are soldered to n but can be changed , or just buy new internals and reprogram

ok cheers for that ,i will have a look at the passenger side first and google green splice, have ordered a new fob so i will see if that solves the issue, the fob i have is just over twelve months old. update, ok just checked passenger carpet and it is dry.
