Hi, new to the forum and looking for some advice. Read lots of useful info on smoking TD4's already, but nothing concrete to diagnose my symptoms. Got a 2005 Sport which has started smoking white/blue smoke from the exhaust, especially noticeable under heavy acceleration and when reverse parking?! Seems to be intermittent - followed the wife driving it last week and seemed okay (ish). Recently serviced and no other problems with it. Did have to replace the small intercooler hose connecting temp sensor to inlet manifold recently as it split - replaced with silicone hose.
Since then I have noticed a little oil in the intercooler hoses. I plan to clean the EGR this w/e and replace the crankcase filter (not done since 2012 service = ~12k). Any other tips appreciated. Hoping it is something minor!!

some oil in intercooler hoses be normal

'important' : change that crankcase filter pronto .. whatever the case

better to delete the egr valve altogether .. one less thing to go wrong ..
and engine runs better ..

see info *here regarding turbos in general ..
( and you will realise the importance of changing the crank breather filter
( or better still .. fit the bmw oil separator part in place of lr's 'filter'

links to freelander1 info

'smoke' could be one of many things ..
see what happens after you change the crank breather filter .. if that don't solve it ..
report back :)

Turns out it was an injector (no.4) problem. Been reconditioned and problem solved. Local garage also relieved me of £336 for the privilege (handbrake also needed some attention)

Disconnecting EGR has also made a slight improvement to performance. Will get the blanking kit when I have some spare moular

Well now not fixed.... smoke re-appeared with a vengeance! Took it back to the local diesel specialist (who did the injector) and there may another (or all 3) injectors needing reconditioning/replacing. Up to £1k bill possible.

Anyone know if replacing one injector then puts strain on the remainder, and cause them to fail?? The beast will then be on the market - can't afford regular bills like this.

£160 is std price for recon injector

How many times - it's not the crankcase: was changed 15 months ago and has been double checked! It's diesel getting into the system, rather than oil.

Turns out all 3 of the remaining injectors need attention

I can get each reconditioned injector for £150. Still over £900 all totaled (4 injectors, labour and diagnostics)
