hello need advice with someone who is experienced with sync-mates

just bought a sync-mate for my range rover as i was thinking it maybe out of sync.

anyway plugged it in and i get the blue light(connecting) then it goes to green/blue(learning mode) and stays on that. in the book it tells me when this happens to reset your ignition switch so the sync-mate can read the code i did this but it still stays on the blue/green light(learning mode)

any ideas why its not getting the code from the becm? am getting no red lights (connection errors)

thanks

befor you start putting your sync mate in make sure your key in on number2, then plug it in and leave it in if nothing is happening i would just spin over the engine once see if this helps it read. I still dont think its out of sync try a wire from the two bolts on your starter or use a screw driver see if it spins over if it does your solinode is sticking thats what i think is your problem..

you need a starter motor that one is ffooooked mate

it does start up and run when using a screwdriver on the 2 bolts it just wont start when turning the key. so it cant be the starter motor or am i wrong? does anyone know where that wire at the top of the starter motor leads to i think thats the problem.

thanks again

yeh ive been trying to get the starter off for over 2 months now.

top bolt just wont come off ive tried everything and ive ended up rounding off the bolt thats when i got someone out to help me get it off and they told me it was not the starter motor. thats when i started looking into what else it could of been.

i thought if the car started then it couldn't be the starter motor but am guessing am wrong. :S

so its now back to trying to get the starter motor off the car :frusty:

The Starter motor bolts on the V8 are M8 or M10 (Can't remember which) Allen type Cap screws which require a 6mm Allen key Socket to undo them. If they are normal "Hex" bolts , someone has changed them in the past.
Admittedly the top bolt is a right pain to access the first time but is do-able with the right combination of extensions and a 1/2" sq. ratchet. The trick is to just "Crack" the bottom one (Easy to access) then "Feel" the allen key socket into the top one and release that and then remove it by hand using the extensions and not the ratchet. Finally support the starter motor and remove the easy, lower bolt.
To refit, offer the starter up, fit the lower bolt, finger tight. Fit the upper bolt to the allen key socket and if needs be, wrap a bit of masking or insulation tape around it to stop it from falling off. Feed the bolt in by hand and tighten finger tight, finishing off with the ratchet.
Tighten the lower bolt.

Job done !!!
